Open Question: What is form PS-014 from the TWC for?
My friend recently was hired for a job as an Admissions Representative and was told that its just to keep on file but he would like to know if anything is done with the Texas Workforce Commission form once he turned it in. Its to be notarized but he was just asked to sign it but that it was just procedure to keep on file, does someone know? moreVoting Question: What Schools Should I Apply To?
I know, I will in the end make a choice based on MY opinions and which school I find is right for me... but it's fun doing it like this. By the way, it'd be for transfer admissions. Here's my credentials... I'm a freshman at a liberal arts school in North Carolina and would greatly appreciate advice pertaining to transferring into UVA. My credentials in high school are as follows: --My weighted HS GPA for senior year was 4.5, unweighted was 3.1 --1900 on SAT --Graduated in top quarter of class (VERY competitive) --All grades are either As or Bs, except MATH. It's consistently lowered my GPA.. and I'm talking Cs and Ds. --Spanish club --Drama club (leadership role) --Involved in NCTC (North Carolina theatre conference) for three years --Demanding drama based extracurricular (5 hrs/wk + assignments and performances at local, renowned theatre) --Won a superlative, "most talented" --Won a faculty award --Volunteered for NPO sponsored event promoting arts to my county's local third graders --Volunteered many hours for United Way as a high school liaison --Volunteered for a chuch-sponsored charity event around Christmas --Won two awards throughout high school in regards to essays sponsored by local veteran's agency. My credentials in college are as follows: --A member of a leadership club and campus committee at my current institution. --Representative for local environmental agency --I WILL GET DEAN'S LIST! --Accepted into honors program my second semester --Staying in central America for over a month in Summer 2010 at an orphanage to help teach and comfort children there, and become fluent in Spanish simultaneously. --Attempting to gain an internship at a local law firm --All classes are chosen in a decisive manner... no goofy classes, all pertain to knocking out preliminaries and gearing toward my major. --Sorority. ... I'm pretty involved, the school just unfortunately isn't my cup of tea. And now the bad: --As mentioned, MATH! (Although I've done exceptionally well with As in college) --My junior year was tough and trying, as I was fighting personal battles (which I WON'T mention on my application). --I took 5 APs, and excelled in all but one. I received a "D" in one AP my junior year. --I took the SAT four times --I'm middle class, from out-of-state, white, and though my dad didn't graduate college, he attended it for 3 semesters... so I don't think I'm technically first generation. moreResolved Question: Applying for a job, salary expectation?
Hey guys, I am applying for a job and they asked me to prepare some questions for my upcoming interview. They also want to know what my salary expectation for the job is, i.e. what do I think this job is worth to me I guess. Its a job as an admissions/front of house representative for a private school in the UK. I would be the first port of call for prospective parents and students showing them around, introducing them to the headmaster etc. Administration is also a large part of the role. Would anyone happen to know of any websites that are current to the economic climate (!) giving indications of a typical salary for jobs, what to expect etc? Thanks in advance!! moreResolved Question: Do I have a chance of getting into UCLA, Berkeley, Stanford, or UCSD?

parallel structure in this paragraph? If so, where? (note: this is not a test or hw question...it WAS from a test but I do believe there was an error in the answer key..I'm not saying my opinion yet though...I want to see what you think). In each of the cases, minors of the Negro race, through their legal representatives, seek the aid of the courts in obtaining admission to the public schools of their community on a nonsegregated basis. In each instance, [347 U.S. 483, 488] they had been denied admission to schools attended by white children under laws requiring or permitting segregation according to race. This segregation was alleged to deprive the plaintiffs of the equal protection of the laws under the Fourteenth Amendment. In each of the cases other than the Delaware case, a three-judge federal district court denied relief to the plaintiffs on the so-called "separate but equal" doctrine announced by this Court in Plessy v. Ferguson, 163 U.S. 537 . Under that doctrine, equality of treatment is accorded when the races are provided substantially equal facilities, even though these facilities be separate. In the Delaware case, the Supreme Court of Delaware adhered to that doctrine, but ordered that the plaintiffs be admitted to the white schools because of their superiority to the Negro schools. moreResolved Question: how can i register to take the MCAT in the philippines?

Do I have any (and what are my) chances of getting into Harvard, UPenn Wharton, Johns Hopkins, Brown, NYU, MIT, Duke Yale, Stanford, CalTech, Babson College or Columbia Univ.? I know these are some of the nation's most competitive colleges, but I just want some advice and some knowledge on the position I hold as a "standout" applicant, or a Harvard applicant. Harvard has been my dream college for many years and I want to do as much as possible to increase my chances of admission into it. Also, I am not rich due to my parents being unemployed. So how will that affect me (positively or negatively)? I am currently a High School Junior (about to be a senior in Fall 2009). I am a Indian (Asian male born in US) attending HS in NYC. I know it's kind of late to ask this question now, but I want to pretty much see where I stand now as an applicant. My overall transcript GPA is a 94.50%. I have maintained all A's with the exception of 3 high B's ( AP US History which I am going up in for 2nd term, physical education and art) on my transcript. I just took my SAT's today and think I did pretty good in math (about 750), and I will have to improve my Critical Reading and writing score (a little bit). I took the Math 1 SAT II's and got a 660, and I will be taking 3-6 more in Fall 2009. My interested majors, in preferred order, are Neuroscience, Business/ Entrepreneurship, and Philosophy. I will go with any of these and would definitely love double majors if available. I continued studying at my JHS until 9th grade, and then I graduated from my JHS being the Salutatorian. My strong subjects are math and science, and have done very well on any standardized tests involving them. I have been a part of my school's yearbook committee, and have volunteered for above 100 hours in my school library and for above 700 hours at my local church/ temple. I have also received about 100+ hours from being a part of the ARISTA National Honor Society. I have done hospital rotations with the hospital associated with my school. I was part of a 10 week (once a week) gap year Medical Internship (called HPREP) at Weill Cornell Medical College in Manhattan, NY. I have taken a lot of college credit courses at CUNY Queens College and CUNY York College in Psychology, Sociology, Health (4 semester course), and Math Intro. to Probability and Statistics. I am also planning to take philosophy, writing, and maybe drama during the upcoming semesters. I have passed all of the classes I took with A's or B's. I have started working on my essays, and received some of my letters of recommendation (the recommendations are AMAZING!!) I have served in the Student Government of my school as Junior Grade Representative, and there's a 99% chance I'll be the Senior Grade Representative as well. For this Summer, I have applied for quite a few internships and will be doing math and/ or science [research] internships over the summer. My school doesn't offer many AP courses and doesn't offer any honors classes, but I am challenging myself with the toughest classes. This year I took AP US History, as that was the only one I could take. I will be taking AP Calculus, AP Physics, and AP English next year. I am not sure but I might being doing the Queens Bride to Medicine program, in which I will take college level classes in Calculus, English, and Chemistry without any college credit. I am also looking forward to the Youth Justice Board gap year internship which is basically like student government in schools but having a great effect on the city and dealing with state officials. Next year I also want to join the Big Brother Big Sister club, the debate team/ mock trials, Yearbook Committee, Library Community Service, Health and Wellness Club, and I am looking forward to being president of ARISTA National Honors Society. I am also going to start my own club based on Vedantic Philosophies, and create a STAND organization group which will help with the genocide in Darfur. Also, if this helps- 2 of my cousins go to/ graduated from Columbia University. I know this was a lot of information and kind of long, but please help me with this as I am worried night and day about my admission into one of these colleges (ESPECIALLY HARVARD!!) Thank you very much in Advance! moreResolved Question: Chances of getting into an Ivy league school (with Additional details from the first question like it)?
I know there isn't a magic formula for getting into a top tier school but pretend your the admissions officer. Any help would be appreciated. Academic standing- Gpa is a 3.9 Weighed Gpa is a 4.0 I have straight A's throughout high school. However I received 1 b+, which brought my GPA down. I don't have my results from my ACT yet but it will be in the range from 25 to 30. I don't think I will get anywhere higher than 30 or lower than 25. I am in National Honors Society. I am the president of my class. I have over 300 hours of volunteer service in my community. I am a varsity attorney for mock trial. I am on the varsity dance team at my high school. I believe I'm going to get captain for my senior year. These are my "hooks" or things that make me stand out. I am involved in national and statewide youth boards. I have spoken at national youth conferences and hosted workshops at conferences in my state. I do a lot of advocating for youth voice and empowerment. I am the South West Youth Representative for the MN Youth Council. I have some EXTREME special circumstances: My mother came from East Africa with my father. My dad left my family when I was young and so my mother worked overtime at a meat packing plant to compensate for 5 children as a single mother. My mom had a horrible accident at the plant she was working at and now suffers from chronic back problems. She can no longer work and my family has relied heavily on government aid. My mother is a hardworking person and enjoys being self-reliant so being stopped from working has led her to have severe depression. I pretty much raised myself and took care of my family from a young age. My family is way below the poverty line and my siblings and I took the initiative to work as early as we could to help pay bills. I know my story is disheartening but that's what you call the "American Dream" right. HA, anyways I hope this can get me an Ivy League education. I am not the typical applicant, I had to mature from an early age and I hope I can reflect all of my achievements through my personal statement. I know this is long, thanks for taking the time to read- I will award best answer. Additional details k thanks for the responses- I was recently invited to a private conference at Stanford university with an all expense paid trip. The dean, and admissions officers told me I should emphasize my special circumstances; especially because small portions of Ivy League applicants are low income. I also forgot to mention I recently won a national essay contest and had the opportunity to attend the National Republican Convention and meet influential members in the Republican Party. Addressing the AP comment- my school allows a limited amount of ap classes per year. Also they do not allow you to take Ap in freshman year therefore minor difference in my gpa. k tell me if that helps any and thanks for the honest opinions. moreResolved Question: What is the national young leaders conference?
Today i received a letter from this organization? saying congratulations you have been nominated to represent your high school at the National Young Leaders Conference (NYLC) to be held in Washington, D.C. this fall 2009. Here's word for word for what the rest of the letter said: You are receiving this unique educational opportunity based on your academic achievements, which we became aware of through a voluntary survey you took by the National Research Center for College and University Admissions Post-Secondary Planning Survey. Like many high school participants, you requested to make your survey information available to approved educational organizations. You now have the opportunity to join a select group of the most elite high school students in the nation who, like you, are destined to become the future leaders of our country. Over the course of 10 exciting days, you will sharpen your leadership skills by observing and interacting with the nation's foremost leaders, policy makers and members of the press. You will see our national government at work by attending a presentation on the floor of the House of Representatives and an issue briefing conducted by a member of the president's administration. At NYLC, you will receive experience and guidance that can't be found in a textbook. (I didn't type all that, they also sent me an email with the same thing the letter said) but anyways, what is this? is it a scam? how did i get picked? has anyone else done this? i would just like some imformation please....thanks moreResolved Question: PLEASE HELP ME PLEASE!, I really need advise on school admissions?
I need SERIOUS HELP! someone please help me!? I have a private school that is giving me problems and I don't know what to do and how to start about things correctly! PLEASE BARE WITH ME! I am not rambling but stating things which you can see make more sense as you read. I have no credit and got a few loans to attend Art Institute. The whole time the admissions representative was very very eager to get me into the school asap. I told her several times that I should wait until I get my GED, since they made a big deal about me needing one to get into the school. The admissions person kept pushing me to GED test and get it FAST! and I tested and have failed the math portion of the test and just recently took the math portion again. I made it very very clear to her(from the very start) that I don't make enough money to be taking 20$ tests and having no car, makes it extremely hard for me to test. One week before school my main loan from Chase(which was approved twice) was suddenly retracted. The financial aid officer said I had a few smaller loans which would cover 3 classes. 1st day when I started class, which was a week into school, I realized I could not make a 9 am class, because I would have to wake up at about 4am. The admissions person told me "hes such a great teacher etc etc" I talked to the financial aid person about getting a supply kit from school, who looked at that same 9am class, I could not attend to and said "don't worry about it" "were gona get rid of this" as in the class. Because I myself did not drop the 9am class in week one, they want to bill me for it anyway! and it WAS a NO CREDIT CLASS and now is! which means I have to take it if I want to graduate. Now they want me to schedule another GED testing asap, while my math results are not even in! just to play it safe! I asked the admissions person prior to all this "ok, so if I fail , ill be OK and just have to re take GED test again, right" she said yes and never said that If I didn't, I would have financial consequence! She knows I don't make jack squat for money and I have made this extremely clear to her, over and over again! I honestly think it was a quota thing she wanted to meet.! what can I do in this situation! ?who can I talk to outside the school?? I feel the school is going to try and cover its tracks. I am not the only student who was rushed into school. moreResolved Question: I need SERIOUS HELP! someone please help me!?

I just recieved an email from Loyola Marymount (applied as a transfer and admission letters are rolling) and recieved an email today: -Your MyAid account has been updated and you are encouraged to login at your earliest convenience. You have received this email for one of the following reasons: * The status of one or more "tasks" on your MyAid "Task List" tab has been updated. For example, if your FAFSA task was "Missing", it may now be updated to "Completed". * We have added a new task as "Missing" on your MyAid "Task List" tab that is required to provide you with your Preliminary Financial Aid Award or to support a financial aid appeal or consider a special circumstance letter we have received. * Your 2009-2010 Preliminary Financial Aid Award is available. Check your MyAid InBox for a special message from the Financial Aid Team. If you have any questions, contact a financial aid representative at ____. We are here to help! BUT when i go to log in, it says use your LMU ID... to which i have no clue what they're referring... the site is a financial aid planning thing... Does this mean I'm accepted and that financial aid is spilling the beans for admissions? moreVoting Question: Does Columbia University offer Pre-Admissions counseling?
I had heard from a representative from CUNY Macaulay Honors that her son had made an appointment with his top college for "pre-admissions counseling". It was basically a meeting with an admissions officer at that university, who went over his current resume and gave advice on what would be the best way to get an edge over other applicants. She said not only did it really give him almost "secret" advice that isn't conspicuously obvious, but it also gave the admissions department a clear idea of him. They remembered his face at the time his application came around, and remembered the initiative he took to set up that appointment. I was wondering if Columbia University in New York City offers such a thing? Also, how would you find out if other schools offer it, and how to contact those in charge? All information is tremendously appreciated! Thank you so much for your time! moreResolved Question: career advice - ITT, Devry or Not?
I left the army recently and now I'm thinking about going to either Devry or ITT. They're quite expensive so I'm being really careful about enrolling in either one of these schools. I've spoken to representatives from both schools and they seem more like salespeople than they do admissions counselors. I was wondering if anyone had any personal experiences with these schools and if they would recommend them? Also, how do employers view these schools? Thanks for any advice or information. moreVoting Question: Is Texas a nation with two governments?
Annexation of Texas. Joint Resolution of the Congress of the United States, March 1, 1845 Joint Resolution of the Congress of the United States, March 1, 1845 28th Congress Second Session Begun and held at the city of Washington, in the District of Columbia, on Monday the second day of December, eighteen hundred and forty-four. Joint Resolution for annexing Texas to the United States. Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That Congress doth consent that the territory properly included within, and rightfully belonging to the Republic of Texas, may be erected into a new state, to be called the state of Texas, with a republican form of government, to be adopted by the people of said republic, by deputies in Convention assembled, with the consent of the existing government, in order that the same may be admitted as one of the states of this Union. 2. And be it further resolved, That the foregoing consent of Congress is given upon the following conditions, and with the following guarantees, to wit: First-said state to be formed, subject to the adjustment by this government of all questions of boundary that may arise with other governments; and the constitution thereof, with the proper evidence of its adoption by the people of said republic of Texas, shall be transmitted to the President of the United States, to be laid before Congress for its final action, on or before the first day of January, one thousand eight hundred and forty-six. Second-said state, when admitted into the Union, after ceding to the United States all public edifices, fortifications, barracks, ports and harbors, navy and navy-yards, docks, magazines, arms, armaments, and all other property and means pertaining to the public defence belonging to said republic of Texas, shall retain all the public funds, debts, taxes, and dues of every kind which may belong to or be due and owing said republic; and shall also retain all the vacant and unappropriated lands lying within its limits, to be applied to the payment of the debts and liabilities of said republic of Texas; and the residue of said lands, after discharging said debts and liabilities, to be disposed of as said state may direct; but in no event are said debts and liabilities to become a charge upon the government of the United States. Third- New states, of convenient size, not exceeding four in number, in addition to said state of Texas, and having sufficient population, may hereafter, by the consent of said state, be formed out of the territory thereof, which shall be entitled to admission under the provisions of the federal constitution. And in such state or states as shall be formed out of said territory north of said Missouri compromise line, slavery, or involuntary servitude, (except for crime,) shall be prohibited. 3. And be it further resolved, That if the President of the United States shall in his judgment and discretion deem it most advisable, instead of proceeding to submit the foregoing resolution to the Republic of Texas, as an overture on the part of the United States for admission, to negotiate with that Republic; then, Be it resolved, that a state, to be formed out of the present Republic of Texas, with suitable extent and boundaries, and with two representatives in Congress, until the next apportionment of representation, shall be admitted into the Union, by virtue of this act, on an equal footing with the existing states, as soon as the terms and conditions of such admission, and the cession of the remaining Texan territory to the United States shall be agreed upon by the governments of Texas and the United States: And that the sum of one hundred thousand dollars be, and the same is hereby, appropriated to defray the expenses of missions and negotiations, to agree upon the terms of said admission and cession, either by treaty to be submitted to the Senate, or by articles to be submitted to the two Houses of Congress, as the President may direct.Resolutions, Treaties & Law August 26, 1998 In June of 1844, the United States Senate considered a Treaty which had been submitted for their approval. The Treaty was the Treaty of Annexation, designed to bring another nation, The Republic of Texas, into the union of American States as one of the united States of America. The Treaty of Annexation was defeated in the US Senate by a vote of 35 to 16. This should have ended the matter, or they should have resubmitted the Treaty of Annexation at a later date, when they could get it passed. This never occurred. Rather, the House of Representatives introduced a "Resolution of Annexation" in 1845, along with a document called "Articles of Annexation." After this resolution passed, the United States declared that Texas was now one of the states of the United States. Interesting conclusion, but let's take a look at the word "resolution." The word "resolution," when it is regarding a resolution passed by an assembly or legislature, simply me moreResolved Question: Can anyone revise my few sentences I wrote to an admissions representative?

The best answer will get 10 pts!!!?
Tne person who actually answers the question right and not be mean will get 10 pts!!!! WASHINGTON - The District of Columbia is one step closer to receiving full voting rights after the Senate approved a crucial measure that sets the bill on track for congressional approval, but even if the bill becomes law, there are likely to be many legal challenges, according to one law professor. The bill seems to have to support it needs from both the House and Senate, but there is a chance it can be rejected at the Supreme County. One American University law professor says the conservative court has traditionally not been very friendly on voting rights and political democracy. "The opponents of the bill say a state is a state is a state. The constitution only allows for states to have representation in the U.S. House," said professor Jamie Raskin. Talkback: Click Here to Comment on this Story He says if this bill is signed into law, it will face some challenges within our justice system and will ultimately be a battle between party lines. "The conservatives are going to take the position that you've got to read the rights that citizens have through the prism of this structure of government, and the liberals will say the reverse," said Raskin. If the bill is enacted, Raskin says all constitutional reviews would take place before the end of 2010. Since the case will take precedence over others, the attorney general will be defending the statute, and chances are, Republicans will also plead their case. "I imagine that you would find Republican members of the House of Representatives who would claim that their rightful portion of political sovereignty in congress is diluted by virtue of the admission of people who have no constitutional right to be there," said Raskin. On the other hand, Raskin says proponents argue that the District has already been treated like a state by congress for years. "Congress has exclusive authority over the District of Columbia - an authority that has been interpreted very broadly that gives congress the power to define what goes on with respect to D.C. I have this news story about the Legislative Branch and have to write a summary for it. Can anybody help me? He says if this bill is signed into law, it will face some challenges within our justice system and will ultimately be a battle between party lines. "The conservatives are going to take the position that you've got to read the rights that citizens have through the prism of this structure of government, and the liberals will say the reverse," said Raskin. Okay. I went to a meeting for a for-profit school a few weeks ago. A week went by with them calling me and shit. Their deadline to sign up was Febuary 6th. Febuary 6th was on a monday. I went to a meeting with them on the previous Friday and they had me sign some papers that read "potentional student" and apartently by the time I was done I was enrolled. Here are my question about the legal stance. On their website it says the following. Each applicant must meet with an Admissions Representative before enrolling in the School. - Okay. I did that. Each applicant is tested and must meet the required minimum test score on the WBST (Wonderlic Basic Skills Test) as part of the College's admissions requirements. - Heres the funny part. I didn't even finish the test. I did only about five questions. Each applicant must demonstrate sincere interest and motivation in wanting to achieve his or her goals. - I walked in like a scared little kid. They were congratulating me on erolling and I just looked scared. Each applicant must complete an application for admission. - I guess I did that. Each applicant must be recommended for acceptance by an Admissions Representative. - I guess everyone is recommended. Also, I attendend my first week of school without paying yet. I got my student loan on Thursday which was four days later from my first day of school. I'm not the only one either. Is this on grounds with inflated enrollment? moreVoting Question: I need help making a decision?
I work in a veteran's hospital as an x-ray tech making 45K a year but I have to admit that my job seems to be very boring to me and I'm not very happy. I was offered a job making 33K a year working at a college as an admissions representative. Obviously I work for the government right now and my benefits would be very hard to beet. I get very good vacation and sick leave. Now I have been offered sick leave and vacation with the new job but not as much. I have the potential to make up to 54 a year working as an x-ray tech and then I would "top out" but with the college job supposedly I would get 10% raises every year with no top(but of course nothing is guaranteed) I know that I would really enjoy working with the college and I think I would beb very happy but would I be stupid to leave a secure government job for that?Sorry this question is in the wrong catagory but no one answers in any other catagory moreVoting Question: I need help making a life altering decision.....?

I'm a sophomore and have been chosen as a pre-candidate for NHS this year. My GPA is 3.9, I take 2 Honors classes and 1 AP course. I've done many community services; ex. babysitting, helping out in my church (i'm also an alter server), have helped out in 'Family Nights' or school 'Patio Sales'. The thing is I am concerned a bit for my leadership skills because it seems like I haven't done a lot of leadership-activities. I am my class class representative in the student counil... and I'm not sure if this counts but I was the producer for a play in my church and I also taught children some dances for a show. Do you think I could be admitted to the National Honor Society this year? moreResolved Question: Is ivy league this stuff true? racially?
i found this, please read, is this true reguarding minorities? Getting into an Ivy League school can be likened to winning the lottery: Pencil in a bunch of scantron bubbles, cross your fingers, pray to be struck by lightning. But instead of winning millions, you're rolling the dice for the opportunity to impoverish your parents. (Or ruin your credit rating, or both!) Nevertheless, aspiring Ivy is a time-honored American pursuit, and no matter how improbable, impractical, and ultimately unpleasant the prize may be, thousands attempt it every year. Mostly, we do it for the free t-shirts. What follows is IvyGate's foolproof, guaranteed, 100%-success-or-your-money-back step-by-step guide to swindling your way into the school of your dreams.* Be warned: It isn't always pretty, and a few of these steps (#3, section ii, second option) might make you go to hell. 1. Have perfect SAT scores, an off-the-chart GPA, amazing extracurriculars, leadership positions in everything, and the ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Duh. This one is a given, a prereq, if you will. Even the richest kid in the world won't get in if he's apt to flunk (or, more likely, drop) out. 2. Be from an insanely wealthy and/or well-connected family, preferably one with an Ivy League legacy. Apply early. While legacy admission standards aren't as hilariously low as they used to be, a study by Princeton SOC professors Espenshade and Chung equates legacy status with a 160-point SAT boost (on a 1600-point scale) to the privileged few who definitely need it least. But that's not what we're talking about here. To guarantee admission, you need to be the child of a major donor, the kind who write seven-digit checks to their alma mater and have buildings named after them. One such Ivy Leaguer, the grandson of a prominent university trustee, told us about his admissions process, starting with an unconventional and star-studded campus tour: my grandad flew to meet my dad & i [at the university], and i just figured that it was going to be a regular day of tours & walking around. however, when we got there we were met by a super friendly admissions guy. he took us on the regular tour, but then we ditched it because he said "it's completely useless" (ironic, considering how much energy & money the university pumps into those tours) he took me around campus, and then brought me to meet a representative from the most popular department at the school, which i claimed to be interested in it. (later, i realized that he was one of the senior professors and chair of the undergraduate program) then they shuttled me over to the president's office. i didn't really GET that it was the president until they told me after we met. the meeting was brief, but looking back, it was quite an unbelievable opportunity. after lunch, we wandered around campus with another admissions rep, who told me all about undergraduate life. After the jump: Anonymous Silver-Spooner (ASS) (Don't be mad, ASS! We tease because we love/hate) continues his story and we offer five more tips for getting in. As for his literal, ink-on-paper application, it was the same as anyone else's: [my grandfather] was definitely noted as an alumnus on my application – but not in any special way, just in that box where they ask you to denote any alumni relations. i submitted my application via Registered Mail (like everyone else...to make sure it got there), so there were no special addresses or markings on it. This fits accounts from the Daily Beast's admissions-side account. The admissions officer received ASS's application was probably already familiar with his name, and knew to flag his app for whatever special treatment the Dean of Admissions prescribed. Would ASS have gotten in without his trustee grandpop? i mean duh... there is no question that my connection helped me out. (i remember being worried at the time, but but looking back it was like "why was i ever for a SECOND concerned about not getting that 'YES!' letter?") at the same time, i don't think my grades & sat scores could've prevented me from getting in. ASS reports little special treatment post-admissions: i don't think i really had any special treatment once i got in (living in [shitty dorm] freshman year really drives home that point) i think the only 'special' thing was that my adviser was eventually switched to the guy who chaired the department that i was, at the time, interested in. however, he was so useless that i would say that he made me a lot less interested in pursuing that path – i ended up choosing a totally opposite major. 3. Exploit your minority status, hide your white background, avoid being Asian. Espenshade and Chung estimate a 230-point boost for African-Americans, 185 points for Hispanics, a 50-point deducation for Asian-Americans, and nothing for Whitey. Currently, the Common App allows students to self-identify multiple races or none at all; thus, th moreResolved Question: 45 Goals of Communism In America…. How many have come true?
http://wethepeople.org/wpblog/index.php/tag/45-goals-of-communism/ 45 Goals of Communism In America EXTENSION OF REMARKS OF HON. A. S. HERLONG, JR. OF FLORIDA IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES Thursday, January 10, 1963 Mr. HERLONG. Mr. Speaker, Mrs. Patricia Nordman of De Land,Fla., is an ardent and articulate opponent of communism, and until recently published the De Land Courier, which she dedicated to the purpose of alerting the public to the dangers of communism in America. At Mrs. Nordman’s request, I include in the RECORD, under unanimous consent, the following “Current Communist Goals,” which she identifies as an excerpt from “The Naked Communist,” by Cleon Skousen: CURRENT COMMUNIST GOALS 1. U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war. 2. U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war. 3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament [by] the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength. 4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war. 5. Extension of long-term loans to Russia and Soviet satellites. 6. Provide American aid to all nations regardless of Communist domination. 7. Grant recognition of Red China. Admission of Red China to the U.N. 8. Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of Khrushchev’s promise in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under supervision of the U.N. 9. Prolong the conferences to ban atomic tests because the United States has agreed to suspend tests as long as negotiations are in progress. 10. Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the U.N. 11. Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world government with its own independent armed forces. (Some Communist leaders believe the world can be taken over as easily by the U.N. as by Moscow. Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo.) 12. Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party. 13. Do away with all loyalty oaths. 14. Continue giving Russia access to the U.S. Patent Office. 15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States. 16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights. 17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks. 18. Gain control of all student newspapers. 19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack. 20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions. 21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures. 22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.” 23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.” 24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and free press. 25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV. 26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.” 27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch.” 28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state.” 29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis. 30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.” 31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the “big picture.” Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over. 32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture–education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc. 33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus. 34. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities. 35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI. 36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions. 37. Infilt moreResolved Question: Looking for an excuse to visit the admissions office?
The dean of admissions at the school I'm trying to get into has a blog and he says that the more interest you show in the school, the more you help your chances, including calling and visiting the admissions officers. Naturally, now I'm trying to figure out an excuse to go talk to an admissions representative. Any questions about the transfer process itself and they send me to the Transfer center (which is not the same as the Admissions office). What sort of questions can/should I be asking that would give me a reason to make an appointment and just kind of show my face a bit? I know some kids call every week or so but I'm pretty good at figuring out what I need on my own so I'm really stuck in figuring out questions to ask/problems to "discover"! moreResolved Question: Can someone give me advice for a college interview?
I got an e-mail from Lafayette requesting an interview with me and I have no idea what to do. I'm definitely going to respond but I'm not sure of what questions they'll ask, what do I say or what do I wear. Here's the email: "I am an Alumni Admissions Representative with Lafayette College. The College has notified me of your application as a mechanical engineering major and has asked me to set up a local interview for you, which could take place at your home, or other convenient location, at a time in the late afternoon or evening. Please let me know by return e-mail or by telephone when you might be available. Looking forward to speaking with you." If its at home do I still wear formal clothing or casual clothing? How do I answer questions such as tell me about yourself? what makes you different from others? Why do you want to attend Lafayette? moreResolved Question: Please tell me what my chances are to get into these Unitversitys....?

I waited at the last minute to finish the application of my top choice school, Davidson College, because I was trying to make it perfect, so I stupidly did it as my last application. As I went on common app, it was 11:58, and I had one minute, and I tried to submit it all but it hit 12 o'clock, January 3rd. I ended up sending it at 12:03. I sent an e-mail to my admissions representative telling her the full truth and asking her to still consider my application. Do you think that my application will even be reviewed or it will be tossed? moreResolved Question: 1 pints a day causes cancer. Are they serious?
I have just read the Nov 07 WCRF Diet and Cancer report Chapter 4.8, the one that deals with Alcohol and cancer risk, and I have two major concerns about Dr Thompson's assertion that 1 pint a day increases risk of bowel and liver cancer. Firstly the report specifically states that there is no measurable increase in bowel cancer unless at least 30g per day of ethanol is consumed (that is nearly four units and is therefore two pints not one) and for liver cancer the dose response charts showed that moderate consumption of 20 to 30g per day reduces cancer risk in 4 out of 6 studies. I am also concerned that the studies into upper digestive tract cancers which do show a correlation between increased consumption and increased risk are based on the less scientific (by the reports own admission) drinks per week basis, and that there is no vertical scale on the graphs, so there is no way to tell the absolute risk. When even the authors, or representatives of authors are being so cavalier about the basis of their findings, how are the rest of us to take anything they say seriously, even if it merits serious consideration!! moreResolved Question: Do i have a chance at Phillips academy Andover (easy 10 points)?
BEFORE YOU READ: please only answer my question if you actually know a thing or two about new england boarding schools, and please give me realistic answers not the answers i want to hear. I realize that it is truly up to the school to decide but i would like to hear someone other then my family give me an answer i am usually an a student but because i switched schools for eighth grade my grades dropped (the teachers all wanted the work differently and i had never had sports practice for an hour each day until i came to my new school therefor i became exhausted). The school i am at is a college preparatory school that a few of my siblings have gone to when they were younger. My oldest sister went to Wesley(not sure if i spelled it right) my second oldest sister went to Harvard, My third oldest sister went to NYU and then my brother just graduated from Wesleyan. I have all a's except for english honors and science class. In science i have a B and in english honors i have a C plus. Both of those grades dropped because of homework, i have been extremely busy these past couple of months and thought i could do a lot more work in study hall then i actually could, and as a result these two grades dropped. But last year i had A's for the whole year and for the ssats this year were really good (at least i think so) my national percent tiles are 98 for math and 95 vocabulary and 95 for reading comprehension. Also i am a member of National Junior Honor Society, National Junior Art Honor Society, was a member of builders club (younger version of kiwanis club), have been a part of student council since 5th grade and last year was class representative. Also in French i placed 7th in the nation on a national test called Le Gran Concours (out of 2000 seventh grade french students). For instruments i play the oboe, clarinet, and the drums, also as of july i have been teaching myself how to play the piano. My brother went to North Field Mount Hermon (another boarding school, not too far from Hartford), also at school i am involved in the photography club. Plus a couple of people i know from my old school went to andover. My interview was with the senior dean of admissions and he said i did very well on the interview. All of my recommendations should be good because all of my teachers like me and know how smart i am. if you need any more info just let me know. moreResolved Question: Plz Chance Me for U of Chicago!!?

For the past two months, a major American magazine and an allied news service have been engaged in a legal battle with the United States Navy over records that they believe show that John McCain once was involved in an automobile accident that injured or, perhaps, killed another individual. Vanity Fair magazine and the National Security News Service claim to have knowledge "developed from first-hand sources" of a car crash that involved then-Lt. McCain at the main gate of a Virginia naval base in 1964, according to legal filings. The incident has been largely, if not entirely, kept from the public. And in documents suing the Navy to release pertinent information, lawyers for the NS News Service allege that a cover-up may be at play. "Plaintiffs have also obtained documents showing that law enforcement officers were ordered back to the accident scene to retrieve personal physical effects. The Navy has never publicly acknowledged this information," one document reads. "This request involves federal government activity, as it addresses what may be an attempt by the Navy to protect by concealment the involvement of a former Navy officer, sitting Senator and Presidential candidate in a serious incident involving the injury or death of another human being." The first request for information concerning duty assignment logs to Portsmouth Naval Hospital -- where McCain was allegedly brought after the accident -- came in the form of a Freedom of Information Act request on August 28, 2008. The Navy acknowledged receipt of the request and advised that it had located the relevant information a few weeks later, only to deny the FOIA on grounds that it didn't prove an "imminent threat to the life or physical safety of an individual" or satisfy the criteria of "a breaking news story of general public interest." "The patient admission record logs that you seek are exempt from release," wrote G.E. Lattin, Deputy Assistant Judge Advocate General, "as information in personnel and medical files, as well as similar personal information in other files, that if disclosed to a requestor, other than the actual person in which the information is pertaining to or next of kin, would constitute a clearly unwarranted invasion of personal privacy." NS News Service and Vanity Fair appealed the decision and asked for expedited treatment of the case, as the end of the presidential election loomed. But the Navy denied that request as well. "It appears to be a deliberate refusal to provide clearly releasable information concerning assignments to Portsmouth Naval Hospital," wrote legal representatives for the two news organizations. "Allowing the Navy to extend its time to respond beyond a date when the documentary facts of this matter would be available for public consideration prior to the national election on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 would violate the spirit, as well as the provisions of the FOIA." Staff for National Security News Service and the company's lawyer both refused to discuss the proceedings. And there are only parcels of information concerning the story that can be gleamed from the court documents. At a minimum it seems clear that Vanity Fair and NS News Service have launched an investigation "disclosing first-hand witnesses' recollection of an automobile accident in which then Lt. John S. McCain III was involved. Those witnesses specifically recall McCain's assignment to that [hospital] facility with the other person involved in the accident." This episode in McCain's life has, it seems, not been made public, and the plaintiffs suggest that the Navy may be attempting to actively restrict information about the incident. "The subject matter of the documents is a matter of current exigency to the American public," reads a document filed by legal representatives for the news service, "because the requester is preparing a current news report addressing whether the Navy continues to conceal the involvement of a Navy officer in a serious automobile accident in July 1964." moreVoting Question: For all Americans. Have we been asking the right people?
For months, the conservatives and the conservative media has been asking Barack Obama why he had or has a relationship with William Ayres, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and ACORN. And his answers have been (at least to us) unsatisfactory. Perhaps the time has come to ask ourselves why those individuals chose to have a relationship with Barack Obama. Why do they admire him? Why would William Ayres respect and support Obama? Why would William Ayres ask Obama to review his book and put his name on it? Why would Ayres have hosted the meeting that set Obama’s course in politics? These are undeniable facts, not mere speculation or political smears by the opposition. Now, let us turn to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Millions of Americans saw and heard this man extol the virtues of Obama. The pastor praised Obama for taking a stand on behalf of the poor and downtrodden blacks. He then followed that praise with a hate filled attack against America and white America in particular. This man asked God to damn this country and hailed Obama as “The One” Again, undeniable truth. We saw and heard it. Finally, we must look at ACORN. Although a positive organization in its concept, it has broken the first law of non-partisanship required by any organization that receives Federal funding. During its own convention, Obama was touted as the one that they needed in the white house and its members were told to go out and get him elected. Millions of Americans have heard and seen the audio and video record of that meeting and it proves that by their own admission, they are indeed partisan not only favoring Obama but commanding their members to work to get Obama elected. Thousands of fraudulent voter registrations have been turned in by representatives of ACORN and already some of the perpetrators of this fraud have been arrested. There is also wide spread testimony by many of those that were legally registered that the person who registered them also told them to cast an early vote for Obama. Again, these are proven facts, not speculation. Why does ACORN want Obama to be elected? What is their agenda? There is a reason that the old adage “Birds of a feather flock together” is a truism that has withstood the sands of time. moreResolved Question: history questions can some1 answer them?

I plan on going to the Air Force Academy. I am taking the PSAT Wednesday. i am a sophomore and i'm taking early college classes, i have honor classes i plan to join JROTC my school only has army JROTC does that matter? i haven't played any school sports yet i was late for the signed ups. i'll have to play as junior. i still have to talk to my counselor. i'm 15 and want to know what i should be doing. I need to find who my local ALO how can i find that? when should i write to the senator, VP, Representatives? i have done a pre registration on the academy web page. i have a high metabolism and i'm real fast i like to run but i'm real skinny and when running i lose a lot more. i just want to get things in order. what should i be doing a this point? i also want to go to a summer seminar. moreVoting Question: Am I More Conservative Or Liberal?
I'm just being cheeky here and taking this for fun, but based on my stand of the issues, would you consider me more liberal or conservative? I am riding on the fence and not sure (even though I am a registered Republican). Please, I don't want this to be an argument or have anyone slamming me for having this or that view. I'm just wondering (again, just wondering) where I perhaps lean towards. Again these are my views Democrat "leanings" ---Ban guns and gun ownership: I travelled abroad to countries that don't allow guns and they don't have the outrageous homicide rate that we do (mostly caused by guns). ---legalize abortion ---don't privatize social security or give too many tax breaks for the wealthy. ---Ditch "No Child Left Behind"(the crappiest plan I've ever seen in education). Quite this standarized testing nonsense. ---I can't stand President Bush. Do not like Palin (but I like McCain) ---Supportive of gay marriages. Republican "leanings" ---More capital punishment and swifter death sentences. Forget trying to "rehab" murderers and rapists. Just kill them already! ---Much tougher criminal sentences and more jail time. Quit wasting my money on rehab treatments for criminals. I strongly believe criminals can't be rehabed anyway. Let them rot. They are not human. ---More troop presence in Iraq and other terrorist concentrated countries. I don't agree with Bush's handling of the war, but I do believe we should eliminate terrorists and treat them like the subhumans that they are. I do believe in warring with these animals. ---Stop giving so much welfare. Many times its just handed out to bums and crackheads. Have a much more investigative process to those who truly deserve it. Cut the systems that give too many handouts. ---Tougher immigration laws. Too many illegals. --Get rid of affirmative action. And yes, I'm black. But I don't think blacks and hispanics should be given a little more special treatment or incentives to enroll in colleges just because of the color of their skin. Intelligence in colleges only (for all races). College Admissions: Make it tougher, not easier for kids to enroll in colleges. I'm not talking about tuition hikes. I'm talking about only letting the serious, hard-working enroll. There are so many lazy, indifferent kids in college and we're trying to recruit more because we have to give "everyone" a chance. Only the hardworking should be in college, not the "D" and "F" students. ---I can't stand others who bash this country or think that we are inferior to other countries. I agree we have our weaknesses. but I love this country and get p*ssed when I hear others say "we had it coming" in regards to 9/11 or sympathizing with other countries resentment of us. Again, just being cheeky here. What do you think? Also, I am leaning a little towards voting for McCain, but I'm not wild about Palin (especially her as President if something happened). I can also see some validity in Obama, but I'm not going to vote for him because he's black and he's representative of "my people." That's why I hate people like Oprah and her "causes." I figure I am more Independent and am going to change my affiliation, but just wondering (for fun) where I "lean" towards. moreVoting Question: I am pursuing a career in film and I was wondering what school would provide the following programs?

I really am turned off to the idea of having others decide and judge how this stuff stacks up, but as far as what my admission chances are to Cornell's College of Arts and Sciences and Davidson, I am really lost. I would like to stress that I am not some super genius or extracurricular nut, just an average joe with some above average credentials: 3.9 weighted (i think?) I've been a caddy at a country club for 6 years, and a custodian at my church for 3. That doesnt have a lot of the specifics (number-wise), and I feel really boastful (lol), but that's it in a nutshell. Am I a legitamate candidate for Davidson and Cornell's College of Arts and Sciences, or am I wasting my time trying for these places? Thank you to whoever answers this plea, I really appreciate your time in helping me out. It is NOT a legal "System" instituted by the Government of India. It was abolished over a century ago much before Free India was even born. It is a social problem in unlettered, illiterate village people, that too in a small section of the population . Does racism not exist in western countries despite Govt. rules that it is illegal? It is blown out of proportion by the Christians and Muslims only to criticise Hinduism. If people even advertise for marriage related to caste they say it is discrimination. A person can choose to marry whomsoever he/she wants and that means people of their own caste too! There is no racial identification in India. Don't people advertise in the west "white male looking for a white female"?. How is that racist or discriminatory? It is a matter of choice. Unless somebody harms another person or curtails another's right in the name of caste, i don't think it is discrimination. By all means punish those that break the law but don't play this politics of opportunism and tokenism. Today OBCs are robbing poor OBCs and Dalits are robbing poor Dalits. They get elected through their caste identity, asking their caste people to vote for them and then don't do anything for these poor and only try to fill their own pockets through corruption. When somebody points out that corruption they will whine about caste discrimination and how a Dalit or OBC is being "targeted" by upper castes and not allowed to rise in politics. There are poor people in the upper castes too. They don't get the benefits of reservation or relaxation in merit cut off percentages for admissions to higher education. This bogie of Caste is being kept alive only by corrupt politicians to divide and rule the people of India. It seems Congress politicians have learnt well from their British overlords! Hinduism says that a person is a Priest, warrior, businessman, worker by profession NOT by birth! Sons followed the fathers profession and pretty soon the professions became family professions and castes became stagnant. Social practises got mixed up over time and the British didnot help either. They wanted to rule India and exaggerating caste discrimination fit in perfectly with their "Divide and Rule" policy. They used one against another. This social hierarchy is representative of the English Class System which still IS instituted by the state. England gave out titles for nobility and discriminated against commoners. This is how they got Scots fighting against Scots and the Irish fighting the Irish for the benefit of England. Even the British Parliament is made up of the House of Lords and the House of Commons. Reflecting the British model is the Indian Parliament which has the Rajya(Royal) Sabha and the Lok(Common) Sabha. moreResolved Question: Select the best answer?
