Are these for Affirmative Action candidates or what are they here for? moreResolved Question: I need people 50+ years old to answer questions about affirmative action.?
- Do you agree wtih affirmative action? - Should affirmative action be practiced today? Why or why not? - Do you agree with the statement: "We need affirmative action to create diversity in schools and the workplace" - In the 1960's and 1970's did affirmative action level the playing field for minorites to receive jobs and attain admission to more colleges and universities? Do you have any examples you would like to share? moreVoting Question: College students/alum: Survey of affirmative action in undergraduate admissions?
Please answer honestly. This is for a college final! On College Life: 1. When you see a minority student, do you immediately (without catching yourself) mentally place their intelligence level lower than where you would place the intelligence level of a caucasian? 2. Do you believe that the majority of minorities at the most competitive universities (Ivies and such) have the credentials of their caucasian counterparts? 3. Would you say that applicants with lower credentials are admitted to esteemed universities in order to boost diversity? Give an estimate as to how many you would believe this would happen to. *for example, for every 10 minority applicants admitted, I believe 3/10 are not qualified for admission. Legally: 1. Do you believe affirmative action has really advanced the opportunities of minorities, or merely given them another discriminatory label. 2. Finally, do you believe affirmative action is efficient the way it is, needs reform, or needs to be removed from college admissions. Thank you for you time!!! I look forward to reading your answers. moreResolved Question: Am I a Republican or a Democrat?
I don't believe in gay marriage, I don't believe in gun control, I don't believe that abortion should be legal, but I also feel that it should be a state's decision (all of these should be decided by state's), and I am against affirmative action based on race. Also believe strongly in the use of the death penalty, I like how Texas does it Having said this, I believe that there should be programs to help the poor. I believe in federally backed student loans. I do feel that poor students should get admissions points for things like college. I believe that we need more government spending on infrastructure, I feel the greatest president we had was Roosevelt. I believe in job training programs, I like labor unions, i'm against free trade, think NAFTA is destroying America, and in general, believe that the rich ought to pay their fair share because it is living here that has allowed them to be so rich. Which party should I be in?Just to clarify, I asked this question for a few reasons. First, it is my intent to enter politics in the next few years. Also, as a clarification, the Roosevelt I referred to was Franklin Roosevelt. And I finally, just to add a point I had forgot. I would have rather seen the automakers, who actually do something for this country, bailed out rather than the bankers who are responsible for the economy's slide in the first place moreResolved Question: Is Middlebury predominantly a gay college?
They have an affirmative action policy for admitting gay students: An official from Middlebury College announced earlier this month that the school plans to give gay applicants a leg up in the admissions process for the first time this year, assigning them a designation similar to that afforded to "members of ethnic minority groups, athletes, alumni children and others," according to an Oct. 9 Inside Higher Ed article.http://media.www.browndailyherald.com/media/storage/paper472/news/2006/10/25/CampusWatch/College.Roundup.Middlebury.To.Aid.Gays.In.Admissions-2400242.shtml moreVoting Question: Is USA demoralized by Obama types with manufactured "academic degrees and honors" ?

Need Advice on African American Admissions?
Right now I have a 4.0. I'm hoping to transfer to the University of Georgia to finish out my undergrad studies next August. I've decided to double major in Biology and African American Studies. I want to attend the Medical College of Georgia, but I have some concerns. The African American population seems to be REALLY low at this school, so I'm assuming that there is no affirmative action. What can I do to increase my chances of getting in? Any advice? moreResolved Question: College Applications: whats my race?
I was born in America. Both parents are from Iran. Lived in America all my life ('cept three years). Read, write, and speak both languages at home (50/50). I think, if i were to be smart with the common app, Iran is in Asia. Its also in the Middle East. I could also be American. From an affirmative action/admissions standpoint, would it be to my advantage if i put 'asian' or 'middle eastern' or 'american'. I asked my parents, unfortunately, we have no Latino or African-American family members ;)wow! i got so many answers. guys, i obviously know my race, i was wondering, from an admissions standpoint, which would be to my advantage. For example, if i were African-American, i would have a greater chance of admittance, with the same test scores, compared to a white person. is that correct? oh, and by 'American' i meant 'white' or 'Caucasian'. thanks! moreResolved Question: What's the problem with affirmative action in colleges?
I know that some schools give a few points to you if you are a minority or a female and this bugs people. Thing is, almost every school gives a very large number of points for having parents who attended the school. Many schools did not accept ANY minorities during the first 45 years of the 20th century. In fact the US Navy Academy (McCain's alma matar) just named their new field house "Wesley A. Brown Field House" to comemorate the first African American to graduate. And that guy graduated just shy of 1950. If I understand correctly, you get far more points towards admissions for having parents who attended a school than any minority will for affirmative action, but if you are a minority, the chances of having a parent who attended a non-historically black college are far lower than if you are white b/c of past discrimination. Why would anyone have a problem with a minority getting a small number of points if the chances that they have a parent who is part of alumni very low due to rampant discrimination? moreVoting Question: Am I More Conservative Or Liberal?
I'm just being cheeky here and taking this for fun, but based on my stand of the issues, would you consider me more liberal or conservative? I am riding on the fence and not sure (even though I am a registered Republican). Please, I don't want this to be an argument or have anyone slamming me for having this or that view. I'm just wondering (again, just wondering) where I perhaps lean towards. Again these are my views Democrat "leanings" ---Ban guns and gun ownership: I travelled abroad to countries that don't allow guns and they don't have the outrageous homicide rate that we do (mostly caused by guns). ---legalize abortion ---don't privatize social security or give too many tax breaks for the wealthy. ---Ditch "No Child Left Behind"(the crappiest plan I've ever seen in education). Quite this standarized testing nonsense. ---I can't stand President Bush. Do not like Palin (but I like McCain) ---Supportive of gay marriages. Republican "leanings" ---More capital punishment and swifter death sentences. Forget trying to "rehab" murderers and rapists. Just kill them already! ---Much tougher criminal sentences and more jail time. Quit wasting my money on rehab treatments for criminals. I strongly believe criminals can't be rehabed anyway. Let them rot. They are not human. ---More troop presence in Iraq and other terrorist concentrated countries. I don't agree with Bush's handling of the war, but I do believe we should eliminate terrorists and treat them like the subhumans that they are. I do believe in warring with these animals. ---Stop giving so much welfare. Many times its just handed out to bums and crackheads. Have a much more investigative process to those who truly deserve it. Cut the systems that give too many handouts. ---Tougher immigration laws. Too many illegals. --Get rid of affirmative action. And yes, I'm black. But I don't think blacks and hispanics should be given a little more special treatment or incentives to enroll in colleges just because of the color of their skin. Intelligence in colleges only (for all races). College Admissions: Make it tougher, not easier for kids to enroll in colleges. I'm not talking about tuition hikes. I'm talking about only letting the serious, hard-working enroll. There are so many lazy, indifferent kids in college and we're trying to recruit more because we have to give "everyone" a chance. Only the hardworking should be in college, not the "D" and "F" students. ---I can't stand others who bash this country or think that we are inferior to other countries. I agree we have our weaknesses. but I love this country and get p*ssed when I hear others say "we had it coming" in regards to 9/11 or sympathizing with other countries resentment of us. Again, just being cheeky here. What do you think? Also, I am leaning a little towards voting for McCain, but I'm not wild about Palin (especially her as President if something happened). I can also see some validity in Obama, but I'm not going to vote for him because he's black and he's representative of "my people." That's why I hate people like Oprah and her "causes." I figure I am more Independent and am going to change my affiliation, but just wondering (for fun) where I "lean" towards. moreResolved Question: State one argument in favor of affirmative action programs for college admissions?

I'm writing a paper on "class" not "race" in college admissions. I think we should switch affirmative action to be based on class. If we take into account where people went to school, who their parents are, where they lived, etc., we'd be helping those that need it, rather than those who don't need it but get help because of their skin color. They don't have the amount of textbooks or computers, etc. that more affluent schools have. You're not discriminating against the middle class with this policy because they're already getting in to college. It'd be ridding the rich kids that get in with their money, not their skills and accepting more poor with better skills. moreResolved Question: Why has no one looked into Obama?
Subject: Recommended Article Where Are Your Transcripts, Mr. Obama? From The New York Sun: Obama’s Years at Columbia Are a Mystery He Graduated Without Honors By ROSS GOLDBERG, Special to the Sun | September 2, 2008 Senator Obama’s life story, from his humble roots, to his rise to Harvard Law School, to his passion as a community organizer in Chicago, has been at the center of his presidential campaign. But one chapter of the tale remains a blank — his education at Columbia College, a place he rarely speaks about and where few people seem to remember him. Contributing to the mystery is the fact that nobody knows just how well Mr. Obama, unlike Senator McCain and most other major candidates for the past two elections, performed as a student. The Obama campaign has refused to release his college transcript, despite an academic career that led him to Harvard Law School and, later, to a lecturing position at the University of Chicago. The shroud surrounding his experience at Columbia contrasts with that of other major party nominees since 2000, all whom have eventually released information about their college performance or seen it leaked to the public. For better or worse, voters have taken an interest in candidates’ grades since 1999, when the New Yorker published President Bush’s transcript at Yale and disclosed that he was a C student. Mr. Bush had never portrayed himself as a brain, but many were surprised to learn the next year that his opponent, Vice President Gore, did not do much better at Harvard despite his intellectual image. When Senator Kerry’s transcript surfaced, reporters found that he actually had a slightly lower average at Yale than Mr. Bush did… The Obama campaign declined to comment for this article and did not offer an explanation for why his transcript has not been released. But observers speculated that one reason might be the racially charged nature of the election. Mr. Obama has acknowledged benefiting from affirmative action in the past, and details about his academic performance might open him up to critics eager to accuse him, probably unfairly, of receiving a free ride, Mr. Kabaservice said… In contrast with the rest of Mr. Obama’s life story, little is known about his college experience. He attended Occidental College in Los Angeles for two years before transferring to Columbia in 1981. The move receives only a mention in Mr. Obama’s 1995 memoir, “Dreams from My Father,” which instead devotes that chapter to his impressions of race and class struggles in New York. An article in a Columbia University publication, Columbia College Today, reported that Mr. Obama has portrayed Columbia as a period of buckling down following a troubled adolescence. He did not socialize much, he has said, instead spending a lot of time in the library, “like a monk.” He has also stated that he was involved to some extent with the Black Students Organization. Federal law limits the information that Columbia can release about Mr. Obama’s time there. A spokesman for the university, Brian Connolly, confirmed that Mr. Obama spent two years at Columbia College and graduated in 1983 with a major in political science. He did not receive honors, Mr. Connolly said, though specific information on his grades is sealed. A program from the 1983 graduation ceremony lists him as a graduate… This otherwise commendable article fails to note numerous other questions about Mr. Obama’s academic record. Questions we have repeatedly raised. For instance, we do not know for certain what Mr. Obama studied in his undergraduate days. He claims he majored in “international affairs,” which seems a bit unlikely for an undergraduate. And, as the article states, his degree from Columbia is in political science — not international affairs. Moreover, we do not know why he was accepted into these schools in the first place. Obama himself has suggested he did not have the grades to meet their requirements. By his own admission, Obama spent his final two years in high school skipping classes, playing basketball, doing cocaine and getting drunk. Similarly, his admission to Harvard Law school is highly questionable. Where are his LSAT scores? And how does one graduate from Columbia without honors and yet get accepted at Harvard Law? Lastly, his ascendency to the Presidency of the Harvard Law school would appear to have also been a case of blatant affirmative action, since the student Obama had only written one legal paper — and that was quite short and remarkably undistinguished. So where are his grade transcripts? So where is the honest and open leadership that Mr. Obama has promised us? I am SO divided on the issue of affirmative action and college admissions. What do YOU believe? moreResolved Question: What do you think of this paragraph?
Affirmative action is not unconstitutional because it has not been ruled unconstitutional by the United States Senate. I researched in an encyclopedia that said, “Some research has indicated that as many as 15 percent of freshmen enrolled at some of America's most selective colleges are wealthy white teens who failed to meet their institutions' minimum admissions standards, furthermore these wealthy white teens outnumber students who benefit from affirmative action.” Wikipedia. Affirmative action is not just available for blacks It is available for women, Hispanics, Asians, and Jews. Although whites make up 65% of the USA population, “whites hold 88 percent of the highest paid jobs in the federal government and 92 percent of the very highest salaried positions” Washington Post. The Washington post also conducted a poll that said that only 17% of Caucasian males had faced employment discrimination because of their race. To top it off, a survey conducted by Pew Research Center says that 63% of Americans support affirmative action. moreResolved Question: Why does "change" candidate Obama oppose Colorado's efforts to change the status quo ?
According to the Wall Street Journal: Colorado is among the so-called swing states, including Ohio, Florida and Michigan, that Democrats and Republicans tend to agree may help decide the election. Colorado also has a proposal on this fall’s ballot that would ban the use of race in college admission, government hiring and contracting across the state. Although Obama has said that such affirmative-action programs (proponents of the programs call it affirmative action, while opponents decry them as racial preferences) probably shouldn’t provide an edge for minority children, like his who have grown up in wealthy, well-educated families, he has opposed efforts like Colorado’s to change the status quo. http://blogs.wsj.com/politicalperceptions/2008/08/10/will-colorado-ballot-measure-on-race-hurt-obama/ moreResolved Question: Affirmative Action?

many people don't know the service he touts includes voting against the federal holiday honoring Dr. King. McCain went along with establishing a King holiday. On the campaign trail in 2000, facing questions about his history on this issue, McCain declared he had "evolved." * He voted an amazing FOUR times against the Civil Rights Act of 1990--a bill designed to make it easier for employees to prove job discrimination and imposing harsher penalties on bosses who discriminated. * In 2004 he opposed affirmative action in college admissions--a key component of the 1964 Civil Rights Act that is among King's key legislative victories. * He has voted at least 8 times against raising the minimum wage. * And as recently as last month, he argued against federal intervention to help Americans, disproportionately Black Americans, who have faced foreclosure during the housing crisis. moreResolved Question: Just wanted your opinion on this column in todays paper?
Obama success hurts bias claim Bonnie Erbe Sunday, July 27, 2008 It's a pretty safe bet that the majority of Barack Obama supporters also champion affirmative action or racial and gender preferences in employment, college admissions and government contracting. It's an even safer bet most Obama supporters who want to hang onto what little federal courts still grant by way of racial and gender preferences have not considered the devastating impact an Obama presidency could have on those preferences, particularly racial preferences. What impact would a black man in the White House have on racial preferences? The liberal Left has not done much by way of debating the issue thus far in the presidential race. But the conservative Right sure has. The Boston Globe's Web site in March ran an article relating the fact that anti-affirmative action conservatives are "seizing" on Obama's run as proof of how passe race-based remedies are for past discrimination:Clinton and her husband both went on to make inexplicably stupid remarks about race. That could have been why she lost majority black support. But the fact it came up so often as a response tells me those same voters should be registering more concern over Obama's stance and impact on racial preferences if he becomes president. Federal courts have traditionally permitted racial preferences as a remedy for past discrimination. The Supreme Court has slowly been whittling away at the use of such preferences, continually narrowing the scenarios under which they are permissible. In June 2007, the court struck down plans in Louisville, Ky., and Seattle, Wash., that assigned students to K-12 public schools based partly on the color of their skin. This was the most recent in a series of cases since the mid-1980s in which the court has whittled away first at quotas and later at preferences. What could do more damage to the argument that blacks deserve racial preferences than the fact a majority of Americans voted to put a black man in the White House? Little, from where I sit. Of course, there will still be economic data showing blacks disproportionately represented among low-income Americans. But the argument that racial bias is widespread in American society becomes that much more difficult to make. Bonnie Erbe writes this column for Scripps Howard News Service. I don't like the idea of affirmative action very much, but I was thinking of my heritage and college admissions and I wasn't sure if I should make it work for me. I mean as much as it's really not fair, it's still in place. First of all, does affirmative action really help minorities get into college? Like how much does it honestly help you? I'm half Puerto Rican, half Caucasian. I consider myself multiracial, yet I look more Caucasian than Puerto Rican. Still, I love my family's Puerto Rican culture. However, I was playing with the idea of race on my college applications... whether I should put myself as Puerto Rican/Hispanic or White. Knowing that apparently colleges might give you special advantage as a minority, I was thinking maybe I should put that. And normally colleges don't have a Multiracial option, but on a lot of things I'll generally put Caucasian. I don't really like Affirmative Action, but as long as it's in place, I wonder if it's right for me to say I'm Puerto Rican moreResolved Question: Is Affirmative Action neccessary in the workplace and in college admissions today ??

Are we really redressing historical inequities, or only creating new ones? Should they be allowed to by-pass qualified "non-minority" candidates in favor of questionably qualified minority ones? In terms of college admissions, isn't Affirmative Action a breach of the Constitution? Should it be allowed when it violates fairness under the law? Has Affirmative Action, both in its technical, legal sense, and in spirit, far outrun its intentions and usefulness? Finally, isn't Obama an affirmative action candidate in the spiritual sense--that is, not technically, but in terms of racial patronizing by the voters, the media and the DNC? moreResolved Question: Affirmative Action in College Admissions?
I have heard of tons of people opposing affirmative action in its regard to college admissions. Who can justify, without emotion, why they think affirmative action is bad or good?To answer the first response, first of all, this is question is not for a paper, but rather one of general interest. And second, i am fully aware that there are whites that approve of affirmative action, which is why the word "most" is put into affect. It just seemed to me that this reply was more of a critism than an answer moreResolved Question: Who is tired of Affirmative Action Fake "Degrees" and the Democratic Affirmative Action Handout to Obama?
In reading Michelle Obama's Princeton "thesis," I realize that like so many other of her ilk given degrees, she does not deserve it and she was given it on the basis of her race. Similarly, Obama himself was also given Affirmative Action handout admissions to college and law school. Now, it appears that the Democratic Party, afraid of African American retaliation and backlash, are ready to hand the super delegates to Obama because he's black and they fear that denying a black candidate his 'due' will endanger the party . I have been a university professor for fourteen years, and I have seen first-hand the kinds of people handed degrees and positions on the basis of race and ethnicity. Now I see the same thing happening with the presidency. Here we had a candidate with a thousand times the credentials of this neophyte fraud, who only a year before his campaign admitted that he'd never done anything. And instead of the DNC supporting this far more qualified and electable candidate...the DNC and the media surrogates put all of their support, including allowing two major states to be disenfranchised, behind the neophyte fraud. Who else has had it with all this Affirmative Action privilege? Who else is sick of the handouts to minorities? Who else is sick of seeing our nation's university faculties populated by idiots who happen to be of the "right" race--who then continue to do nothing but complain and engage in faux academic research that amounts to nothing but Afro-centrist propaganda and utterly discredited CRAP? Who else is tired of this garbage?Perhaps the beneficiaries of Affirmative Action somehow feel that they "deserve" these advantages? Why? By the way, I can say that nothing that has been given to these students has resulted in anything of merit. The African American students that I teach in the 2lst century write terribly, far worse than did Frederick Douglass in 1860, and he was a former slave! So don't tell me that SLAVERY is the issue, or that racism is the problem. The problem, dear Brutuses, is not in your stars, but in yourselves! Black culture is the problem. And we are TIRED of putting up with and handing everything to you without your EARNING IT!Those who think that Obama is "brilliant" or the "best educated" candidate we've had are not qualified to actually judge. He is an average intelligence person whose articulation is surprising coming from a black man. Likewise, people bend over backwards to congratulate him (and in the same stroke, themselves) that such a person has 'risen' as he has. This is pure balderdash. This guy isn't qualified to wipe Hillary's ass!The "Affirmative Action" I refer to with reference to the nomination has to do with the same spirit of handicapping the minority candidate. It's not an official AA position, but rather one in spirit. The media have been the worst offenders here and the DNC has led the way.See, under Affirmative Action, no one can be sure if indeed even his grades were not affected. Ask Clarence Thomas. He said his law diploma was not worth the stamp that was used to send it, because no one can possibly evaluated it objectively, given Affirmative Action and racial patronage. moreResolved Question: What are the chances McCain becomes president?
He voted an amazing FOUR times against the Civil Rights Act of 1990--a bill designed to make it easier for employees to prove job discrimination and imposing harsher penalties on bosses who discriminated. In 2004 he opposed affirmative action in college admissions--a key component of the 1964 Civil Rights Act that is among King's key legislative victories. He has voted at least 8 times against raising the minimum wage. And as recently as last month, he argued against federal intervention to help Americans, disproportionately Black Americans, who have faced foreclosure during the housing crisis. http://money.cnn.com/2008/04/10/news/economy/mccain_econ_plan/index.htm?postversion=2008041012 moreResolved Question: Can President Bush's admission to an Ivy League university be considered a form of Affirmative Action?
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush said Friday he opposes the use of a family history at colleges or universities as a factor in determining admission. http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/08/06/bush.legacy/index.html moreResolved Question: Do you agree with Ron Paul's stance on affirmative action?
In 1997, Paul voted to end affirmative action in college admissions. Paul criticizes both racism and obsession with racial identity: "Racism is simply an ugly form of collectivism, the mindset that views humans strictly as members of groups rather than individuals. Racists believe that all individuals who share superficial physical characteristics are alike: as collectivists, racists think only in terms of groups. By encouraging Americans to adopt a group mentality, the advocates of so-called 'diversity' actually perpetuate racism. Their obsession with racial group identity is inherently racist." Agree or disagree? Why or why not? Thanks everyone so far for the well-thought-out opinions! I'm not a republican, but I like Ron Paul's stance on foreign policy. I was reading up on his other views, and this struck me as interesting. Glad to hear what you all think :-) moreResolved Question: Is Affirmative Action Fair?
So I know there are all these fuss about affirmative action when it comes to college admission. There are those people who are historically less advantage than others. However, does it make it right for colleges to give a better advantage towards certain minorities? I had a friend who was Asian, he worked his ass off in high school. He was probably the most dedicated guy I ever met. He wanted really hard to get into Duke University, which was his dream school. When he got his admission results in April of last year, he was rejected. He later found out someone else from our school got into Duke who happened to be a latino with a much lower grade academics, in terms of scores and grades and everything that my friend had done in high school. I have never seen someone so heart broken. He said he was discriminated. He said he worked so hard and put so much effort just so he could be rejected because of his race. Is it fair? moreResolved Question: amount of intelligence of blacks?
PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE QUESTION BEFORE MAKING ANY JUDGEMENTS. Anyone can be smart and be successful if they study, including all African-Americans. I recognize that there are/were plenty of intelligent African-Americans out there. For example, Condolezza Rica, Colin, Powell, WEB DuBois, and many others. I do know that many African-Americans have been responsible for many inventions that have shaped our society. However, in the US, (at least statistically) African-Americans have the lowest scores on standardized tests than any other racial group. Also, African Americans are the most under-represented group in colleges even though they may receive aid in the admissions process while other minorities such as asians are overrepresented even though they do not receive aid from affirmative action. The Question: Why are less blacks willing to work hard (unlike some of the black people mentioned above who worked very hard academically), than do other races? Is it genetics, sociology, both?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_and_intelligence#Black_intelligence_stereotypes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:1995-SAT-Education2.png http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:1995-SAT-Income2.png Also I haved asked, in person, some of the black people in my school why they do not work hard. Their answers have been that they would be "acting white" if they did so. Also I asked the same people about an african-american student that works very hard academically and their response was "he's an oreo" or "he's acting white" -Just a thoughtThe thing about standardized test scores, remember that's ON AVERAGE. I recognize that there are plenty of african-americans who do score well but the averages are still low.Signifiers, I understand where you're coming from but even if our society is largely run by whites, why is it that asians still perform well on standardized tests and are over-represented in colleges. Do whites like asians any more than blacks?Genetics and sociology are the ones i thought of the top of my head that might answer it, but if you think there may also be other reason or that either genetics and sociology are not factors that affect the average intelligence of African-Americans then just say so.Baton- I want you to know that I think everyone is capable of anything as long as they work hard for it. Just because someone is black does not mean I will assume them to be less intelligent. I am not in any way saying that "blacks are incapable of achieving any success in life". I've done my best to show that as I wrote this question. One thing I think most of us can agree on is that it is virtually incontrovertible, that blacks have the lowest AVERAGE standardized test scores, iq test scores, and college admission rates (meaning there are plenty of smart African-Americans out there). What I want to know is why Blacks rate lower than other races, and perhaps what can be done to fix this. moreResolved Question: Why are blacks under-represented in college throughout the country even though they receive aid?
in the admissions process from affirmative action, while asians are well over-represented even though they are not aided by affirmative action. Are a fewer percentage of blacks willing to apply themselves academically than those of asians? or is it some other reason? Please give some sort of an explanation for your answerBy "aid" i do not mean economically and am not referring to grants, loan, etc. I mean aid in the admissions process that may give extra points to blacks in the ADMISSIONS process before anyone even thinks of money. Last time I checked, most institutions do not have these kinds of programs for asians. moreResolved Question: do you belive in AFFIRMATIVE ACTION?
i am doing a french oral on the topic. so i want some opinions. this is in terms of college admission process...whether affirmative action is fair or notpersonally.. i belive in affirmaive action because it is the best for every body. why should the more rich dominant white boy get all the shit he wants just bc his dad is the head of some company? while another boy works his ass off and gets nothing moreResolved Question: Question about affirmative action in college admission?
I am just wondering how exactly race figures into a college admission process. On the college apps, there is an additional information section that asks for ur ethnicity if you would like to be identified as such. My question is whether or not it realistically improves your chances of being accepted if ur black or hispanic for instance. If so, how much of a boost does it give or how so would it help? moreResolved Question: Should Liberals be stripped of their status as Caucasians???
For decades, Liberals have made no secret of the fact that they openly practice anti-Caucasian racism and with for the government to adopt laws that are intended to discriminate against Caucasians. Recently, Liberals have even begun claiming that non-Caucasians should not be punished, in any way, for attempting to murder Caucasians and that such behavior (like that engaged in by the six felons at Jena) by non-Caucasians is perfectly acceptable. In the past, Liberals have attempted, and all too often succeeded, to implement laws, known collectively as “Affirmative Action”, that FORCE employers, college admissions directors, real estate agents, and other to discriminate against Caucasians by systematically favoring non-Caucasians. For their repeated anti-Caucasian behavior, isn’t it only right that Liberals be stripped of their status as Caucasians???A bill to affect the removal of Liberals from the Caucasian race could read as follows; Based on their repeated racist anti-Caucasian behavior, it is clear that Liberals no longer wish to be members of the Caucasian race. Furthermore, Caucasians no longer wish to allow Liberals to be considered a part of their race. Henceforth, Liberals will no longer be classified as Caucasians. Liberals will no longer be entitled to the rights and privileges of Caucasians nor shall they be allowed to refer to themselves as Caucasians on any legal documents. moreResolved Question: In the wake of the stupidity of Jena 6...?
What are your thoughts on affirmative action NOW ? Im white, so where is MY special legislation...special college admission quotas... Im white...So if I plan an assault on a stupid hick....Where are my hordes of protesters claiming I did nothing wrong ?mrs hiche... Clearly you don't know the penal implications of PREMEDITATION."Learn to earn your place in society" ?? That is perhaps the most anti-American statement I've ever heard on Y!A You resort to jokes about the word "penal" because your arguement is flawed, and empty. Have a nice day. moreResolved Question: College Admission Questions - [10 pts] Please Read: Thank You.?
Is it true that well-known and bigger colleges look for diversity - therefore accepting certain students solely based on economic disadvantages according to their status on the FAFSA? ex [ why is it that some students get into a college because they are poor?] if so , what type of schools are these for? and i am not talking about affirmative action w/ minorities. moreResolved Question: What do you think about affirmative action used in the college process?
What are your views on affirmative action, especially in the college admissions process? moreResolved Question: Does affirmative action help blacks who are not underprivildged?
I am black and my parents are fairly wealthy, will AA still help me even though I have had more opportunity than many white kids. Household income over 200k. Does AA still help me in college admissions or would it only benefit me if I was poor and black? ...I was just wondering, don't really know exactly how AA works.thank you for people who answered, and just to be clear, i don't give a shit about what you think about lazy ass black people, only about what my question asked. moreResolved Question: Why do "civil rights activists" claim to seek racial equality?
People like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, etc. all claim to want racial equality, but all their actions and words only draws lines between races. If they really wanted equality, shouldnt they be trying to eliminate the concept of race from the cultural consciousness? Things like affirmative action, racial admissions tracking at colleges, fostering "black voting blocs" etc only serve to try and exacerbate inequal racial treatment. It seems to me you can either have it one of two ways - either you fight for equality, in which case people like Jackson and Sharpton are trying to put themselves out of a job, or you admit that there really are differences and competition between races, in which case you can fight for your team, but then dont blame the other teams for fighting for theirs...I didnt necessarily mean Jackson and Sharpton specifically, just as an example....I know they're just media darlings and a lot, if not the majority, of blacks know they're snakeoil salesmen. I'm speaking as much about the average, everyday "black power" or "angry black man" types as well. I'm not trying to belittle the history of racial inequality or the burdens in pre-60s America, either. If your solution to rectify those past troubles is to push for better treatment of blacks, I'm actually fine with that. Competition is healthy, I'm all for social capitalism :) What bugs me, though, is those people who want to push so hard to improve the condition of solely any one group of people, but then take such offense when anyone in the other group wants to do the same for theirs. You cant have it both ways. Just imagine what would happen if Congress tried to make a White History month, for instance :)and to kobaincinto: its OK to murder, then, as long as you murder whites, is that it? :) I'm sure you're all for the expulsion of the Palestinians from Israel, then, because the Arabs stole it from the Jews and Christians back in the 7-8th century, after all. I'm guessing you're European. Go to a Germany-Ghana soccer match in Hamburg and tell me how many fans are calling the Black Stars things like nigger...that would never happen at an NFL game. Racism is just as strong outside the US as it is in it. moreResolved Question: Are white feminist women only in favor of affirmative action when it benefits them?
There are many states across the nation who are eliminating affirmative aciton in college admissions. From the 1970's to late 1990's the feminist group have been in favor of affirmative action. Yet in the state of Michigan and other states such as California and Washington state in which majority of voters are white women affirmative action has been replaced. I have come to the belief that white women only like affirmative action when they get a job over a white male in a male dominated industry but hate it when they get overlooked by someone who is black who is least qualified. Am I right or wrong? moreResolved Question: what's your opinion on affirmative action in the college admissions process?
just wanted to get some opinions. is it necessary? is it doing enough? is it fair? do you know anyone that got into a college that you don't think would have if it weren't for affirmative action? let it fly. moreResolved Question: There have been several recent important court decisions regarding Affirmative Action in the college admission
There have been several recent important court decisions regarding Affirmative Action in the college admissions process. Do you believe a person's gender, age, race, national origin or religion should be a factor for being admitted into college? What about law school? Are there any circumstances under which a person's gender, age, race, national origin or religion should be considered in the admissions process? moreResolved Question: Why are liberals opposed to the Affirmative Action Bake Sale?
Why do libs whine about having "diversity" in college admissions and employment, but get offended over promoting diversity in cookie ownership? http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=36902 moreResolved Question: Why do people think Legecy is ok for college admissions but affirmative action isnt?
I personally believe both are not right but it seems legacy is somehow ok in the minds of many who are against affirmative action. Do not give me the BS that legacy is earned, because if your parents or sibling can put up a high HS record to get in why can't you is my thinking. When it comes down to admissions into college it should be about you and your record not your family, race or gender, but what you did and what you had to go through. moreResolved Question: Do you think colleges should do away with Affirmative action and Legacy?
I think that both should be disallowed. When it comes to admissions just because you are one race or your mom, dad, or sibling went to this school should not play a factor about you. What they should do instead is only have applicants put in their social security number and address when they apply. No name no racial identification. Also leaving off any group organizations that will denote race, basically giving school the essentials grades, test scores, personal statement and teacher recommendations. In this way admissions advisors do not feel pressured to feel they have to accept a student because of race or their parents have some political power. Also once a student is admitted colleges only identify you by a number anyway. moreTop Affirmative Action College Admissions Links
