Resolved Question: What is the easiest football position to play to get recruited for a college team?
I think its kicker, but my friend says its long snapper. What do you think? If I practice a lot as a kicker on the field and workout on my legs, then is there a chance I can be recruited to UC Davis? Or should I practice at long snapping? Or is there another sport that is easy to get recruited to colleges? moreResolved Question: College Freshman: Question About WALK-ON !?
I am interested in playing College Sports. I heard a WALK-ON athlete is an athlete who was not able to make the roster, and was not given a scholarship, but who is willing to try out for the team and practice with them. I understand this part, but what I don't understand is that does a WALK-ON athlete get the same benefit (not scholarships) as the RECRUITED athlete? For example, will the WALK-ON athlete be able to get into the college with sports (like how RECRUITED athletes get into college)? Or does the WALK-ON athlete have to get into the college with REGULAR APPLICATION, and then hope he/she gets into the college first, then try out for a WALK-ON? Sorry if my questions are confusing, but hopefully you guys can help me! Any kind of help would be really appreciated! Thank you!!! :Dsorry about the wrong CATEGORY! moreResolved Question: Would someone please give me suggestions on how to improve my supplementary essay?
I am writing an letter/essay to Ball State in order to explain my poor highschool grades. I am hoping to prove that I have learned from my mistakes and that I would be a good choice for their school. Am I on the write track? Would you suggest any improvement? And lastly, is this a convincing letter? Any help is appreciated! Thank you! I am writing in regards to my high school grades. Although many associate poor grades with sloppiness or laziness, my poor academics are rooted in my obsession and passion for art. Ever since I was a child in elementary school I have had a great love for painting and drawing. I could spend hours on end completely immersed in my hobby. My attention could hardly be shaken from my projects until I was satisfied that they were complete. Once high school came around, I began to see this as a problem. My passion for art overwhelmed my thoughts to the point where I failed to keep my priorities in order. I would come home from school and instead of diligently working on my homework or studying for tests, I would toss all cares aside and begin to work obsessively on my next project. As I continued to do this, my grades continued to slip. When I finally began to realize the importance of my grades, I had already put myself into a predicament. It was too late, I had nothing to show for my past years of high school. At the beginning of my junior year I decided to start anew. I bought a planner and wrote down all of my assignments on a daily basis. I even gave myself a scheduled time each evening in which I could concentrate on nothing but my art. This new process of planning my time proved successful and by the time the first semester ended I was quite proud of my progress. Second semester came around and I was prepared to continue this process but this time something unexpected happened. I was put in charge of designing and painting a large, elaborate backdrop for the high school production of The King and I. For the next two months I was planning, painting, and acting for up to six hours every weeknight. I was exhausted. Though I recruited as many people as I could, I still couldn’t help but be involved in every detail of the project. However, as stressful as this was for me, the enjoyment I received from it outweighed everything else. After all was said and done I returned to my normal high school life to find that I had once again fallen behind in many of my classes. As the semester came to a close I struggled to catch up but soon realized that the damage I had done could not be undone. I feel that by making these mistakes early in life I have gained the tools needed to avoid making these mistakes in my adult life. For one I have learned that scheduling is my friend. Giving myself a certain time to do something lets me concentrate completely on the task at hand. In the end more is accomplished. Also I have better learned how to rate the importance of a task. Although something may seem important at the time I must look at the pig picture and decide how much something will benefit me in the future. Finally I have learned that I have a natural gift to be able to work obsessively hard on anything that interests me and I have been practicing in using this talent for tasks that don’t interest me quite as much but are necessary. Over the summer I have worked to find a college to suit me and have found Ball State University to have quite a desirable art program. I feel that this school can help me to cultivate the discipline I need and learn the skills necessary to succeed as a professional artist. I would like to thank you for your time and careful consideration. I would be honored to attend school here and am looking forward to being able to prove I can succeed under the college level workload. moreResolved Question: Will completely giving up caffeine help my anxiety disorder and improve my personality?..the details follow?
I was diagnosed Obessive Compulsive Disorder and depression over ten years ago, and been switched between different antidepressants that began to lose effectiveness on me. So, right now, the only thing I take is 10mg Lexapro but want off of it. I'm also rewinding back to when I started consuming caffeine and to come to think of it, that was over ten years ago, around the same time I got diagnosed with OCD--so, I'm having an apithany here and that is if I completely give up caffeine, will my anxiety be greatly improved to the point that I no longer need medication?? It's cause I heard so many instances that caffeine consumption can aggrevate and worsen anxiety disorders and it's not recommended for people with anxiety disorders and IBS. I even heard switching to decaf isn't very effective cause it can contain up to half the amount of caffeine that a full regular cup of coffee has. I consume one cup of regular coffee everyday. I am determined to completely cut caffeine out of my diet for my New Years Resolution 2009 and also get back up to par with my exercise routine. I wonder if giving up caffeine will improve my personality? You see, the following life situations in the past six months have made my anxiety worse and I want to give up caffeine for these reasons: --I graduated college last May in graphic design--and I've been freaking out with the job search. The job I have now is only seasonal, temporary, as an assistant manager that does airbrush work at Six Flags, so I'm out of work in the winter. If the job market keeps failing me, I'm going back to work there next year. For the past three months I've done nothing but put out resumes and samples along with taking an internship-like class that starts in mid January. I've had a few interviews, but no offers, even though I followed up--and no, I didn't screw up in the interviews, I acted very appropriate and smiled. When I give up caffeine, I'll be more calm about this failure going with the flow and I'll attract a better job a lot quicker. --In an earlier post, I explained how I was in the Amway/Quixtar business, and was getting discouraged, anxious as an IBO. The business wasn't right for me, I thinks it's a cult, where the more you pressure and recruit people to sell, the more money you'll make; which is bullsh*t practices--my upline and I weren't getting along. I told him that I couldn't afford to keep investing in products, driving around selling, and going to hotel meetings when I'm busy looking for a better job and building a graphic design business with my friend. It's tough since I lack relevant design experience; I only have one internship, most graphic jobs today require 3-5 years of agency experience. My upline told me that I haven't found a better job yet because of my personality (I worry alot) and that I'm not grown up yet since I still live at home, plus he told I had to be aggressive and harass employers to get my dream job. I told him that there's a difference between being enthusiastic and annoying in that situation, and then he politely said that I was being a douchbag, a pussy--so for the sake of my future, I must give up caffeine to improve my personality. --My worsened anxiety is negatively affecting the relationship with my boyfriend. He tends to worry because of my self defeating behavior. Cutting out the caffeine can improve this. Giving up caffeine--really worth it? I appreciate anyone's input on this. Sorry for such a long post. Merry Christmas everyone! ;) moreResolved Question: Are military recruiters ever out of line?
I've seen a few military recruiters tell youths that they shouldn't go to college because college won't be there for them when they need it and that the military will give them anything they want out of life. I've also seen military recruiters tell people not to listen to their families and that they're (recruiters) only going to befriend them if they sign-up. Aren't these methods and practices of recruiting a little out of line? I mean, you can't tell someone that college isn't good. It's alright, in my opinion, to present the pros and cons of the military (and other career choices) to people, but telling them what to do is wrong. What do you think? (I have a bunch of friends in the Army, so I'm not some anti-military/bias individual...just looking for opinions.) moreResolved Question: So, would you hire me?

Thanks everyone! moreResolved Question: Pentagon to recruit aliens?
WASHINGTON – Struggling to find enough doctors, nurses and linguists for the war effort, the Pentagon will temporarily recruit foreigners who have been living in the United States on student and work visas, or with refugee or political asylum status. Defense Secretary Robert Gates has authorized the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps to recruit certain legal residents whose critical medical and language skills are "vital to the national interest," officials said, using for the first time a law passed three years ago. Though the military previously has taken recruits with green cards seeking permanent residency, Gates' action enables the services to start a one-year pilot program to find up to 1,000 foreigners who have lived in the states legally for at least two years on certain types of temporary visas. The new recruits into the armed forces would get accelerated treatment in the process toward becoming U.S. citizens in return for serving in the wartime military in the United States or abroad. "The services are doing a tremendous job of recruiting quality personnel to meet our various missions," sometimes with bonus pay and tuition for medical school, said Bill Carr, deputy undersecretary of defense for military personnel policy. But they haven't been able to fill their need for 24,000 doctors, dentists and nurses in the Defense Department. The Pentagon's doctor and nurse corps remain 1,000 short of the numbers needed to treat patients, and Carr said he hoped the program would fill the gaps. The military's most pressing need is for neurosurgeons and dermatologists to treat troops coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan with brain and burn injuries caused by insurgents' wide use of roadside bombs and suicide bombs. The force also lacks nurses with a broad range of specialties, Carr said. It also needs people with special language and cultural skills for a war on terrorism that has taken the armed forces across the globe. Though the military has been looking for more Arabic speakers and others to help with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the new program looks to recruit speakers of some three dozen languages, including Albanian, Korean, Punjabi, Somali and Turkish. The effort to find the recruits begins early next year. If there is a need for more recruits in the future, it would take a new authorization, Carr said. Of the 1,000 new people, at least a third must be medical professionals, Carr said. "It is exceptional, limited, vital," he said of the effort. The linguists are to be used in a broad range of military jobs — as infantrymen, seamen and military police. Those with the best language skills would be used in intelligence fields. The armed forces have used foreigners since the War of 1812 — over the years some 700,000 have served. But because of the counterterrorism war begun after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on America, President George W. Bush signed an executive order in 2002 making foreigners who join the military eligible to apply immediately for citizenship. They essentially go to the head of the line among citizenship applicants, having their cases processed in about three years as opposed to the five years it takes others, Carr said. There are now 29,000 non-citizens in uniform today, Carr said, with about 8,000 more enlisting every year. He expects that among those who will be interested in the new effort are doctors with work visas who are working at hospitals around the country, a program aimed at tackling shortages among U.S. medical professionals. The military has never recruited non-green card holders, but a law passed three years ago lets them do so when it is determined to be vital to the national interest. On Nov. 25, Gates declared that to be the case for the purpose of getting more doctors, nurses and linguists. Carr stressed that recruits will have to pass the same physical, mental and aptitude tests required of all who join the armed forces. Health care workers also will have to meet all medical professional criteria to practice, be proficient in English, and agree to enlist either for three years on active duty or six years as reservists. The linguists/culture experts will have to enlist for four years of active duty service. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081205/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/military_recruiting When will the program be effective? Is it already started? To join with a language skill, will I need a college degree or some kind of certificate? moreResolved Question: how to like swimming again?
ive gone through rough patches with the sport before, but never like this. lately i just dont care. the past three years i have excelled in the sport, but now i basically suck. its scaring me how much i dont care. like ive been going 54s-55s in the 100 free and 1:59s in the 200 since freshmen year but now as i senior im having trouble breaking 58 and 2 06. i understand that sometimes you just have a bad meet, but ive been having multiple bad meets and practices. in fact, i couldnt even tell you the last time i had a good one. im captain of the high school team, and my coaches are like whats going on with you? theyre a married couple and theyre like 90 and theyre so grumpy all the time. also, i can honestly say i just hate the sport. i dont even think i want to do it in college, (i just had a recruit trip at tufts) which is sad because ive dedicated so much time. i dread getting in the water, that initial dive, ughh; the sound of the starting gun literally haunts my dreams. i dont know what happened to me. i used to love this sport. swimming itself is so much harder for some reason too. i dont remember being in this much pain during meets and practices. who knew my FOREARM could hurt after a 100 free? i lost my period (no im not pregnant) and my doctor said i wasnt allowed to lift or do dryland with my club team anymore. consequently, ive lost weight; mostly muscle. i used to be 122, and now im 113. i think thats why swimming is harder and im SO COLD all the time: on deck at meets, in practice, in the middle of class. i dont know why im going on this rant. basically, i just want to love swimming again. i want to feel the way i used to feel about the sport. i want to be fast again, and happy. i want to make states in February, but at this point i probably wont- i may not even be on the 400 freestyle relay if i keep going 58’s. does anyone have any advice on how to get back into the sport? moreResolved Question: how can i get better and get noticed?
i am a 15 year old sophmore at Don Bosco Prep H.S. I am 5 feet 8 and i start at PG for the team. I average 18ppg and 13.4apg for the varsity team. i get about 4 hours to practice each day (that includes basketball and workingout in the gym). wat drills should i do to improve my shooting as that is the weak part of my game (especially 3 pt shooting: 39%. mid range shooting: 61%) i also need to work on getting my quickness up. i currently rune a 5.0 40 yard dash and i would like to get it between 4.7 and 4.8. Another problem i have is getting noticed by college coaches. i have been contacted by Robert Morris and Mercer, but being a 3 star recruit i would like to get contacted from mid-majors or some major college schools (ex. Davidson, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Ohio State, Xavier, Washington, Purdue) are schools i have interested in. I need help getting noticed, since i dont score that much i feel i don't get notice a lot. Any one with real good help will get best answer. moreResolved Question: Walk-On at the Quarterback position without any high school experience?
Ok, thanks to Michigan I now know that yes you CAN walk on at the QB position. Well, in my case, I go to a Magnet School (high school with HIGH academic standards) so we do not have a football program at all. I really want to play football but so far there have not been any camps around the area I live in or any other alternatives. I have been running and throwing the football a lot and I know for a fact I can go out there and compete (waits for unemployed recruiter to troll). This type of thing stresses me. I am an honor roll student at a difficult school (magnet school) and I have yet to take the SAT (I am in the 1st semester of my Junior year in High School) but on the practice SATs I have scored high. So grades are NOOOOTTTTT one bit of a problem so hold back the rants on that. As for my stress, I REALLY want to play QB at a college level, I mean I would fight Kimbo Slice right now if it guaranteed me earning a shot at the Quarterback position at a division 1A or division 1AA college. I mean Quarterback, no other position. Also, I may get accepted into an Ivy League school, so here are my questions (after I have provided the background information). 1. Will I get an OPPORTUNITY to show D-1A recruits how good I can play and show them some promise or will they say, "sorry, no high school football, no opportunity"? 2. Is it true that at Ivy League schools they do not recruit for football? 3. Is there a case where someone who did not play quarterback in high school ended up playing to on a college (D-1, D-2, or D3) or even NFL level? 4. I am Indian (India), will my race play a factor in me getting to play Quarterback at a Division 1a or Ivy League school? Or even a D-1AA school? 5. What can I do right now to prepare myself to play Quarterback at a D-1A level? I am kinda chubby but I have lost most of my potbelly and I am starting to develop a 6 pack now, the last time (1 year ago) when I ran the 40 yd dash at my cousin's school (I was visiting, unfortunately my stubborn parents will not let me go there) my time was 4.6. As you can see, I am passionate about this. Day and night this thought just haunts my dream, I have come too far in life in order for someone to say no. I used to be the dumbest kid in elementary school according to teachers but after that I made nothing but A's. I did not even know a word in English when I was 11 and the English language teacher told me "You are an idiot that will never learn English", now I am taking AP Literature and have an A in it (I was born in Chicago but my family moved a lot to different countries like France and Germany). I could not even make a free throw in Basketball in middle school and the coach told me I suck at it, now I easily make three pointers. I know I can do it but will I ever get an opportunity to be a Quarterback? moreResolved Question: I would really love to play Division 3 basketball someday?
Now I'm 20 years old and started playing again 2 months ago (I haven't played in like a year, due to injuries - torn knee ligament but after recovering I never really picked it up again). The thing is I'm willing to work hard everyday, I have 60 credits from a 4 year uni, and I will be transferring to a junior college next semester because I don't like my current school. I also only plan to stay in junior college for a semester and apply as a transfer. What would it take to get myself back to my high school level and get recruited or tryout for a division 3 team after I leave junior college? My junior college has really talented players so I doubt I'll make the team next semester, but would intramural and self practice be enough to get me ready? I'm also planning to train extremely hard summer 09 and get ready for tryouts for the school I'm hoping to attend. Would I have enough time? If so, what kind of workout plan should I follow? It would be great if someone can give me some advice and direction as I really intend to train hard. I know over training can be dangerous, so I'll balance it out. Thanks and please take this question seriously without insulting remarks, I really appreciate the help. You may be brutally honest, because I don't know what it takes to be a division 3 player. moreResolved Question: how do players get strong so quick when they enter college sports?
i follow college football and basketball (ucla love their basketball team easily lose interest in their football team) i like to follow their recruits and watch them sign. and within month from going to the school and practices they become so much stronger. what is their training method moreResolved Question: Boyfriend trouble... 10 points to the best answer. ?
My boyfriend and I have been together for six months. This new school year is especially hard because he took a year off before, and so this is the first time we've both been in school and work. (Him in first year college, me in grade 11) His classes are busy and he spends most of his life waiting in between classes at his school. I only get to see him a few times a week, and then only for a few hours. Now this girl that he had a crush on before he went out with me, she goes to the same school, and up until now we all worked together. Shes my friend, and my boyfriend says that he doesn't want anybody but me, but its obvious he really enjoys her company as a friend if nothing else. She gets to see him more than me because they both have the same 4 hour long class breaks three times a week. Now he was talking to her today about his weekly smash bros club he goes to... and how they're recruiting members. Its for serious, or at least practiced Smash players, and he's always talking about how I wouldn't want to go... And now shes going to go tonight, and see if she likes it, maybe go every week! I know I might sound childish, but I really need my boyfriend right now, and its not fair that she gets him more than I do. He knows I'm jealous of the time that she gets with him, and laughs it off, saying that he gets jealous of the guys I spend time with too... And he usually spends all his time messengering me via his laptop while he's at his club, and today when he told me the "Crazy News" he assured me that Him and Her would both have lots of time to talk to me while they were there. I can't believe it. Shes going to get more time with him then i've had in a week just today. What does this look like? Is my jealousy just blinding me to the normal reality of it? What shoudl I do??? I appriciate you reading this, DevHe's really not her type. She's my close friend, but i've only known her well for about... seven months or so. I know that she wouldn't try anything. But shes an ex crush of his... There's a certain... I dunno. But it should be a really easy feeling to relate to. I'm obviously letting myself hurt me inside, but him triggering it unintentionally makes me want to lash out and, you know, make him jealous. I've done that too many times already. But still... feelings? moreResolved Question: USC football: cheating their way to #1?
Yes, the Trojans are by far the best team in college football this year. But, USC is also the best at something else...cheating. Consider these facts: -Known agents given access to the USC locker room and on the sidelines of their practices. There, the agents were given free range to meet with players and recruits...relationships that would end in seeing at least hundreds of thousands of dollars in gifts given to the players and/or their families -Barry Bonds' former doctor is the father of two former USC players, one of whom tested positive for steroids. -USC head coach Pete Carroll recruited Colorado State lineman Frostee Rucker after he was kicked out of CSU for sexually assaulting a young woman and indecent exposure. It has been exposed that Rucker sexually assaulted another girl, while at USC, in August of 2005. The truly shocking part of this is he did not miss one single game at USC. -Mark Sanchez, the current USC quarterback was also arrested for sexual assault on April 27, 2006. He obviously has not suffered because of it. -Heisman trophy winning tailback Reggie Bush is currently under investigation for receiving numerous cash payments, personal trips, clothing, cars and car repairs, and living accommodations to both him and his family by a marketing director, who claims they were just personal loans...but it hardly matters because players or their family members receiving personal loans from agents or marketers is an NCAA violation as well. Yes USC football is the best this year, at cheating as well as playing. What? You say it doesn't matter? Why not? Kevin H: Check the rules, genius. ALL OF THOSE WERE VIOLATIONS!NCAA just reinstated USC wideout Dwayne Jarrett this afternoon, even though they determined he received $18,000 in free rent from an athletic program supporter. Yet he is not going to miss a single game. Yes, another violation of the rules.bigjohn: You again? I'm currently a college sophmore taking my 1st LSAT in December. Have been practicing for it for over a year and have taken Princeton review and Kaplan. The more i practice for it and the more practice exams i take the better the scores are progressing. My expectations will be to get at least a 165. Lets suppose i do get in the 165-170's or more on the LSAT and by the end of my 4 years in college my GPA stands at my current highs of 3.71. I'm a 22 year old college student from New York who is planning on joining the Marine Corp. after I finish my bachelor's at James Madison University next June. I plan on going to Law School, but I want to take some time off in between my undergrad and getting my law degree...so I thought, what better way to improve myself, see a different country, and serve mine at the same time? I went into a recruiting office in White Plains, NY today for about 3 hours...I talked with the recruiter who was very honest and helpful...but I want to ask Officers as well as Infantry...am I going to be looked down on as an officer if I didn't go through basic training bootcamp with the men of my future platoon? My recruiter was trying hard for me to enlist, telling me that you can apply for OCS once enlisted, and if that's the case, you're known to the men as a "Mustang," someone who has been through shit and won't put up with any. The feeling I got from him was that I should enlist, then apply for OCS. But the thing is, I only want to do active duty for the required 4 years, and I'd like to spend those 4 years doing what I'm capable of. They set me up in a room and gave me a practice asvab...when they saw my score, my recruiter kind of changed his tune, telling me my 95 out of 99 was one of the most impressive scores he's seen in a while, and that maybe I should go straight into OCS because i struck him as an officer. Also, I don't think it makes a difference, but they kept asking me for my highschool gpa, sat scores, and college gpa. 3.8 in high school. 1260 on the SAT's, 3.0 and working towards a bachelor's degree in history. Thanks for your help everyone!!!Moby, sir, if you happen to check back, I'd be very appreciative if you wouldn't mind if I e-mailed you a few more questions I have. What you wrote made a lot of sense, and it was nice to see that there are other people like myself wanting to join after getting their college degree. I'm getting no support from my parents, my college advisor, and even my favorite professor who teaches middle east studies where I go to college when I talked to/e-mailed all of them about my desire to join. Everyone keeps telling me I'm wasting my edu., let high school drop outs take care of the dirty work and go straight to law school. I think that's the only time I've told my father to go f*ck himself, and hopefully it'll be the last. My e-mail is mcgowacd@jmu.edu and I'd really appreciate speaking with someone who isn't my recruiter and isn't a civilian, someone who can honestly answer my questions and steer me in the right direction...apparently all the people in my life are out to discourage me. moreVoting Question: What's Best for me?
Hey, I'm about 14 years old, 5ft 8 I live in the Middle east. I am one of the best Basketball players in my school. But the problem is I'm staring Sophomore year soon, and I want to be recruited by a good college and i realized scouts don't come to the middle east. I tried applying for schools in the United States, but i couldn't afford the expenses. By the end of sophomore year Ill be heading to the Junior year which will be hell becuase of the IB program which wont give me time to play or Practice. Including My school dosent even care about Players who have good chances of becoming Pros. So I decided to Spend one more year and try to join sport clubs. Please Tell me if I should go to High School with good Basketball Program. moreResolved Question: SEC West ?
What does everybody think about this. This came off of ESPN.com. LSU to repeat in the West July 8, 2008 9:00 AM Posted by ESPN.com's Chris Low We shift our focus to the Western Division today, where Auburn and LSU are the two most talented teams. Both have quarterback questions, though, which could leave the door open for somebody else to sneak up and win the division. My predictions kick everything off again today followed by five questions that could define the West race and then the top three games to watch. Later on today, I'll have a two-part Q&A with Auburn offensive coordinator Tony Franklin, who's had the Chick-fil-A Bowl and spring practice to put in his spread offense. 1. LSU: There's an old adage in football that says muscle up front both offensively and defensively wins every time over the flash and dash of skill players. Nobody in the SEC has a better combination of offensive line personnel and front-seven personnel on defense than the defending national champion Tigers. On offense, center Brett Helms, massive guard Herman Johnson and tackle Ciron Black are all All-SEC caliber players. And even with the loss of Glenn Dorsey on defense, the Tigers return Tyson Jackson and Kirston Pittman at the ends, as well as BCS national championship star Ricky Jean-Francois, who can play both tackle and end. The best thing about Ryan Perrilloux's dismissal was that he didn't go through any of spring practice, meaning there won't be as big an adjustment this fall to redshirt freshman Jarrett Lee and junior Andrew Hatch. Lee is the likely starter at quarterback. He'll be asked to be more of a caretaker than anything, and it's always nice to have the stable of running backs and receivers that will surround him. LSU has to go to Auburn on Sept. 20 and hasn't won at Jordan-Hare Stadium since 1998, but that drought ends this season. 2. Auburn: Tommy Tuberville has been so consistent at Auburn and won so many big games that you wonder if his success is taken for granted on the Plains. Never shy about shaking things up, Tuberville has a new offensive coordinator (Tony Franklin) and a new defensive coordinator (Paul Rhoads) this season. The Tigers will also have a new quarterback. Sophomore Kodi Burns and junior college transfer Chris Todd exited spring practice in a battle that was too close to call. Todd is the better passer, but was plagued by a sore throwing shoulder all spring. Franklin enters the season expecting both to play. The defense will be a trademark Tuberville defense - fast, aggressive and nasty. End Antonio Coleman and tackle Sen'Derrick Marks will be two of the better defensive linemen in the league. The schedule also works out nicely for the Tigers, who get Tennessee, LSU and Georgia all at home. Auburn is plenty good enough to win the division and just might, but I think LSU is a little bit better up and down both lines of scrimmage. 3. Alabama: A toss-up here between Alabama and Mississippi State, but I think the Crimson Tide's touted signing class will be enough to get them in the top half of the division. This team will look more like a Nick Saban team from start to finish this season. In other words, don't look for another epic collapse in November. Much of the burden falls on senior quarterback John Parker Wilson. When he played well last season, Alabama usually played well. Wilson likes what he's seen of new offensive coordinator Jim McElwain's system and wants to spread the ball out to more of his playmakers this fall. Look for freshmen to play key roles on both offense and defense. The Crimson Tide are especially thin at linebacker. Judging from the number of arrests (10 within the last year), Saban is still trying to get the kind of grip he wants on this team. He's acted quickly on the more serious infractions. If the Tide are going to make some legitimate noise in the West race this season, the last thing they need is more off-the-field trouble. All in all, this team still lacks the kind of quality depth it takes to win big in the SEC. 4. Mississippi State: Mississippi State's patience with Sylvester Croom was rewarded last season, as the Bulldogs won eight games and their first bowl game since 2000. Croom was named the SEC Coach of the Year and just recently pocketed a new contract extension and raise that takes his annual salary to $1.7 million. It's well deserved for a man who walked into a mess at Mississippi State when he arrived in 2004. Croom is adamant that the Bulldogs' best days are ahead of them. For that to happen, they need to add more offensive firepower. Croom has tried increase the speed on the offensive side to match that of the defense. But outside of 240-pound running back Anthony Dixon, the Bulldogs don't have a surplus of proven offensive weapons. Senior free safety Derek Pegues leads a defense that was opportunistic and rock-solid a year ago. One thing we know about Croom's teams is that they don't quit, nor do they discourage easily. The Bulldogs will win a couple of big games this season. They just won't win enough of them to challenge for the West title. 5. Mississippi: Seeing Houston Nutt strolling the Ole Miss sidelines will be strange, but Nutt will be the first to tell you: It was time for him to get out of Arkansas, and most of the Hog Nation feels the same way. For all that former Ole Miss coach Ed Orgeron did wrong during his three-year stay in Oxford, he did recruit pretty well in spots. So Nutt has some talent to work with, and he's also got a quarterback that Ole Miss fans are anxious to see. Texas transfer Jevan Snead had a big spring and gave the Rebels a dimension in the passing game they never had under Orgeron. The other guy to watch on offense is incoming freshman tailback Enrique Davis, who was one of the top prep school players in the country a year ago. Nutt joked a few weeks ago that Davis sure did look good on film and that "we're going to find out real quick how good he is on the field." Looking at the Rebels' schedule, it's not too big a stretch to think that they could be 4-0 heading into their trip to Florida on Sept. 27. 6. Arkansas: Bobby Petrino says Arkansas needs to be his last job. Well, seeing is believing. A coaching nomad for most of his career, Petrino is back in the college game after leaving the Atlanta Falcons in the middle of the night last year. He's got his work cut out these first couple of years. The Razorbacks are replacing just about everybody on offense and defense. Casey Dick is the quarterback for now, but Petrino said following spring practice that Dick will have to work to keep that job. The Hogs were so run-oriented under Houston Nutt that you wonder how well and how quickly these players will adjust to Petrino's fast-paced, pass-driven offense. That kind of transformation doesn't just happen overnight. It takes recruiting classes and patience. Then again, it didn't take long for Petrino to make Louisville an offensive juggernaut. He's one of the best offensive strategists out there and keeps teams off balance with an array of different formations and aggressive play-calling. As good as Petrino is, he'll need to be a miracle worker for the Hogs to be a factor this season. Getting to seven wins would be a coup. moreResolved Question: Should American Soccer instate Promotion and Relegation?
Football, soccer in the US, has become outstandingly popular in the country. The major problem is that the majority of players will not make the MLS. The MLS Superdraft recruits only a few college players and foreign players steal most spots (not saying that they don't anywhere else). A major system all over Europe and the world is promotion and relegation. This system allows the truly talented of showing there skill and getting places with it. America has voided this fair practice because the MLS believes the sponsors invested in the team knowing that it would be a first league team and that if they were to drop a division then the sponsor could abandon the team. State you opinions and thoughts on why this system is good for footballers and should be allowed in America. moreResolved Question: How is playing sports in college different than...?
How is playing sports in college different than playing sports in high school? Do you have to have gotten a scholarship for that sport? Do you have to have been recruited? Or do you just try out and get on the team like in high school? Are the coaches much more selective? Cause schools are bigger? Are practices longer? Do you have practices on weekends too? If it's different for each sport, I wanna know about soccer and swimming. Did you play sports in college? How did you get on the team? Was it harder to keep up with work you get from classes? Is it either sports or academic in college, or can you still play three different sports a year and still have good grades like in high school? In fact can you play more than one sport if it's during a different season, or are you stuck with one sport for four years? Is it still kinda just for fun or are they like preparing you and want you to go pro? If you're good? moreResolved Question: Medical Terminology???
You are a medical assistant in a large physician practice that is going to be growing by adding additional physicians. The practice will need to hire and train quite a few new medical assistants to support these new physicians. They have contacted a local college to allow them to post ads in the medical assisting program to recruit new graduates to these positions. The office manager has asked your team to write a sample SOAP note that new hires will be asked to read and interpret. She has also asked that your team write a sample training outline based on the sample SOAP note so that one of your team members can present an in-service education and help new hires correct any deficiencies in reading this SOAP note. Instructions Individual Each member of the group should write a brief SOAP note of at least 4 paragraphs, documenting a fictional patient visit and including medical terms with suffixes, roots, and prefixes. The individual member should select either a muscular or skeletal body system patient problem to which the medical terms will refer. Go to the Library and use the web resources to help you develop your SOAP note. Use your knowledge of other medical terms to develop a SOAP note too. For the assessment part of your note, write a summary of the findings rather than a medical diagnosis. For the plan, you can note what medical terms seem realistic to use in terms of follow-up. The goal is to develop a document where the new hire can demonstrate his/her knowledge of medical terminology. When you encounter abbreviations or acronyms that you are unfamiliar with, you may use your own resources or the web resources to determine the meaning of those abbreviations or acronyms. Your individual deliverable should identify acronyms or abbreviations that could be misinterpreted and how you have modified your SOAP note to avoid that possible misinterpretation. For example, one of the acronyms used in one of these SOAP notes refers to the acronym SBE. This can mean self-breast examination, which is also seen as BSE (breast self-examination) or an illness called sub acute bacterial endocarditis referring to an infection of the heart. Obviously these have very different meanings. Please add your file. Group Your group should select or combine features of the individual SOAP notes into one SOAP note to produce 2 SOAP notes. There should be at least 10 medical terms used, and terms from at least 2 body systems should be mentioned. Remember that patients who visit a certain kind of physician may have current medical problems in other body systems.Your group should develop a training outline that includes major and minor bullets on how to interpret medical terms seen in this sample medical record. Your group will need to consider what topics to include, a behavioral objective for each topic, and how much time should be allocated to each topic. Your group should then produce this training outline as a PowerPoint presentation. Your group will also produce a document of the group's SOAP note. moreResolved Question: help on Medical Terminlogy information?

But most homeschoolers aren't very good at the game....at all. So far I have 3 members(including me) for the team. I need at least 12 so we can divide it into teams for practice. Any ideas for how to get more members? And any ideas for some drills and such to build team spirit and all that??? By the way, what is the age thing?? Someone said it would be 12-14, then someone else told me it would be 13-17. Which one would it be? And would it be juniors or what?? Hello, I am preparing to interview for a Division 1 head soccer coach position in a small conference. The college has had a losing program since its existence. My strongest attributes are teaching, organizational, and leadership skills. I also am completing my Masters degree this May at the college, so that might help me too. The area that I am most deficient in is coaching experience. Can you give me any advice for how I should prepare for this interview? I feel that on paper I am not the best candidate but I am confident that I have the skills to be the best choice. I feel that I will really need to impress the interview committee for me to get this job. What will the committee be looking for?... Practice plans? Recruiting plans? Plans at all? What outside-the-box strategies can I use which will separate me from other candidates? I am certainly going to bring a portfolio…what should I include? If you have hired a coach in the past, what did he/she do in an interview to impress you? Not only impress you but made such an impression that you decided to hire him/her even if they were not a leading candidate going in to the interview. I greatly appreciate any advice! Who agrees with me?
You can say what you want about last weekend stunner against Stanford but at least try to keep it all in context. I am not going to buy into Gary Klein's comment that this was "one of the greatest upsets in college football history". Big yes, greatest no way. If anyone has been paying attention the last to seasons SC has been walking a tight rope and this time just like Oregon St. and ucla last year there was no net to catch them. I have many questions as we all do but I am not one of those that wants Pete Carroll fired. That's just silly talk and while all opinions will be heard here it doesn't mean I have to agree with them. This is the guy who orchestrated the incredible run we have been and while I am pissed about last night's game I am far from asking for his head on a pike. It looks like a lot of us have been spoiled with all the success that SC has had the past few years. All the hype, deserved or not, has kept SC at the forefront of the college football landscape and a lot of that has to do with Pete Carroll. His recruiting, his motivation and his success here have brought us a lot of excitement and made SC prominent again. I mean does anyone want to go back to the days of Larry Smith, Ted Tolner or Paul Hackett? Pete Carrol has a lot of swagger and arrogance and for the most part it has worked in SC's favor last night was not one of those instances. All this talk about talent and depth doesn't matter if the talent doesn't get any playing time. Experience in real game situations are what make a player better which is why SC was rotating so many players in the early games. When the injuries take their toll that game experience becomes all the more critical. No team plays harder than SC does on the practice field because competition is king. That is why we have a lot players banged up. This is the formula that got us here and I see no reason why we should change it. But players need to be ready to go when the call goes out.Fight On!!! Root for USC USC is the best football team ever!!! moreResolved Question: With Hollywood becoming environmentally-friendly....?
Will this lead to the end of big-budget, blockbuster movies and the end of action movies. Will they be replaced by smaller, more family-friendly films that don't require a huge amount of money and resources to produce? By GARY GENTILE, AP Business Writer LOS ANGELES - From "green carpets" at awards shows to organic fruit served to actors on sets, Hollywood is going all out to promote itself as being environmentally hip. But is it all just show? No amount of public service announcements or celebrities driving hybrid cars can mask the fact that movie and TV production is a gritty industrial operation, consuming enormous amounts of power to feed bright lights, run sophisticated cameras, and feed a cast of thousands. Studios' back lots host cavernous soundstages that must be air- conditioned to counter the heat produced by decades-old lighting technology. Huge manufacturing facilities consume wood, steel, paint and plastic to build sets that are often torn down and tossed out after filming ends. The energy guzzling continues on the exhibition side, too, with multiplexes drawing millions of kilowatts to power old-school popcorn makers and clunky film projectors that cash-strapped theater owners are reluctant to replace. A two-year study released last year by the University of California at Los Angeles concluded that special effects explosions, idling vehicles and diesel generators make the entertainment industry a major Southern California polluter, second only to the oil industry. Still, financial and public pressures have resulted in many studios expanding their environmental efforts, doing everything from using a biodiesel fuel mixture to run the generators on the set of the Fox show "24" to converting Warner Bros.' enormous set-building facility to solar energy. "Public consciousness on this issue has changed dramatically," said Kyle Tanger, a principal at Clear Carbon Consulting. "The talent themselves are requesting it from some of the studios. And a lot of these things make economic sense." Economic benefit can come to studios directly, by switching to more efficient lighting or cooling systems or driving hybrid cars on location, which can save gas. Other projects, such as installing solar power, can take decades to pay off. But there are other benefits that are harder to quantify. Besides the public relations angle, many performers and other employees want to work with eco-friendly companies, so it also helps in recruiting and retaining employees, Tanger said. Form and function merged at this year's Primetime Emmy Awards show. To symbolize its commitment to energy conservation, Fox had wanted to replace the traditional red carpet with a green one. The tradition-bound Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, which gives the awards, politely said "no." But the carpet that ended up cushioning the heels of such stars as Sally Field and America Ferrera was made from recycled plastic bottles and later cut into pieces and donated to several local schools. "No doubt some efforts have been window dressing. But I actually think Hollywood is doing far more than people are giving it credit for," said Terry Tamminen, who served as an adviser to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger before starting his own environmental consulting company. One convenient yet controversial method is the purchase of carbon credits by studios and producers to offset the greenhouse gases from their production activity. The credits attempt to counter such pollution by investing in environmentally friendly projects such as planting trees or funding wind power. Studios and a growing number of other industries calculate their emissions, then write a check to one of several brokers who funnel the money to projects around the world. The goal is to become carbon neutral by funding activities that reduce an equal amount of emissions. The 2004 Fox film "The Day After Tomorrow" and last year's Al Gore documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" offset all or some of their pollution. This year's "Evan Almighty," from Universal, donated money to the Conservation Fund to plant 2,000 trees, enough to "zero out" the greenhouse gases produced. But the practice has come under fire by some who say it is an easy way to avoid the hard work of directly reducing pollution. Others question whether carbon credit payments are actually going to projects that make that much of a difference. "If you're going to drive around in a big ol' Hummer and then buy carbon offsets to mitigate that, that's like getting drunk on the weekends and throwing some money through the window of an AA meeting and thinking you're doing something," said Ed Begley Jr., who was a poster child for energy conservation long before Al Gore made it trendy. The Federal Trade Commission, meanwhile, has begun examining claims made by the nascent multimillion-dollar carbon credit industry. Warner Bros., which bought carbon credits for the 2005 film "Syriana," has also become more aggressive at reducing emissions during all phases of production. In addition to solar-powered set-building, the studio is recycling sets, using recycled plastic lumber in the construction of some buildings, and printing double-sided scripts where feasible. Pieces built for the 2001 film "Ocean's 11" now sit in the Santa Monica offices of the National Resources Defense Council. Sets from this year's sequel "Ocean's 13" were donated to decorate the halls of local community colleges. "You have to start by measuring your own footprint, then reducing it, whether through using alternative fuels, reducing electrical loads or combining trips," said Shelley Billick, vice president of environmental initiatives at Warner Bros. Entertainment. "It's too easy to write a check, pay thousands of dollars and say, 'I'm climate neutral.'" Last year, Fox parent News Corp. set a goal of being carbon neutral by 2010. To further that goal, Fox Broadcasting chose its popular "24" series as a case study and to serve as a model for other television productions. Diesel generators that power the show's lighting were switched to a mixture that uses 5 percent biodiesel fuel. That percentage will be increased in coming years. The show also has secured energy from solar and wind generation from a local utility for its soundstages. But News Corp. has a more ambitious goal than simply reducing its own carbon emissions. "We knew from the beginning that if our goal is to make as many carbon reductions in the world as possible, probably the best way we can do that is through our audiences," said Rachel Webber, director of energy initiatives for News Corp. The company concluded that worldwide, it produced the equivalent of 641,150 tons of carbon dioxide. But a rough estimate revealed that the people who read its newspapers, watch its TV shows and browse its Web sites use about 7 billion tons. "That's the greatest potential to reduce carbon, but we have to get our own house in order first," Webber said. To reach the wider audience, Webber and a climate expert from Harvard University met with show writers and executive producers earlier this year to brainstorm on ways to integrate environmental messages into show plots. But Webber said Fox is not forcing "tacked on" messages into its shows, but rather offering resources should writers choose to address the issue. "We can't use this in a way that doesn't fit into the show," Webber said. "It can't be Jack Bauer driving in a car he otherwise wouldn't drive in." Ultimately, any steps Hollywood takes, big or small, to reduce emissions are positive, Begley said. "There are different shades of green." moreResolved Question: need help with FINDING A TALENT for a beauty pageant?

Hi, everyone. I need some help. So I have started a college club but I'm not exactly sure what topics I should hit on. The last year has been unorganized and it was more of a hangout club really. But this year, I want to step it up and recruit new members and make this an actual club. So I was wondering what I could talk about. I know for Seniors, I can talk about the UC application (since thats like all the club wants to apply to) and SAT practice for everyone. We will also go on some college tours. But that's about it. What else should I add? I can't think of anything else. Should I go over careers/majors? That's really hard though. Thanks in advance! moreResolved Question: Help with my college club?

Which top recruits are you excited to see this year or even next year? I'm excited to see Ryan Mallett, I saw him at spring practice in Ann Arbor and he's going to set some records. Also excited about Sam Mcguffie, he has some ridiculous skills. moreResolved Question: Do you think 2 a days are helpful or harmful in high school? More NFL teams are eliminating them.?
Recently, I heard that a few NFL teams are reducing the number of two a days. Now there is a debate in a few states to reduce the number of 2 a days at the high school level because of they say that it is harmful for kids. I disagree with this because I feel, as a former high school football player, that 2 a days is most needed at the high school level since kids are still trying to learn the fundamentals of the game. Of course it should be controlled and the kids should be provided plenty of fluids, but I don't think states should ban it. The results will be sloppier high school football games and possibly fewer recruits into the college level because the kids may miss out on the opportunity to get in extra practices. Do you think 2 a days should be banned at the high school level? moreResolved Question: 12 year old select A softball player ... What to do ?

A added note she is very smart and would do whatever her mother and i decide without any questions knowing we have in mind whats best for her . moreResolved Question: When al-Qaeda looks at its list of top recruiters, isn't the name of George W. Bush in first place?
I can't think of a more compelling figure than that of George W. Bush to hyper-stimulate the world-wide recruitment of people into al-Qaeda. Did everyone know that George W. Bush used to be a cheerleader in college? He still is a cheerleader, but for al-Qaeda this time around! I can see him in his white pants and white shoes. He has a bright red pullover sweater with al-Qaeda stitched fancily in silver letters. His megaphone has the Islamic crescent painted on the side along with the challenge " Bring it on! " When he isn't practicing his cheerleading yells and motions, he works full time at the al-Qaeda recruiting office. moreResolved Question: When do college football teams begin preseason training?
More specifically, at what time during the summer would a freshman recruit be required to start attending practices? Does it change based on the Division that the school is in? Would the freshman recruit be able to hold a summer job that required him to work two days a week prior to mid-july, at which point he would be working 24-7 until the second week in August? moreResolved Question: Is my doctor right to deny me my request to have complete physical examination regularly?
My doctor refused to give me a complete physical examination. I asked about having it regularly, every three years or so, as is recommended for people my age, and she wondered why I was so worried about my health. She told me that if everyone was like me, they’d constantly be doing physical examinations. She also mentioned what vast amounts of money would be spent just for these physicals. She also said that they do not practice giving complete physicals just for preventive reasons. She said that I don’t need a physical examination unless at a time when I turn 50 years of age (which would mean my next physical will be in 27 years), or when I’m signing up for college, when I’m recruited, etc. What she did say, is to come to her regularly so that she would measure my blood pressure, listen to my lungs, and have my blood tested. Should I be looking for another doctor, or perhaps move my insurance elsewhere (in whatever degree this is possible in our health "care" system in Croatia)? moreResolved Question: College Bowls?
Senior Bowl practice has began and a few eeks ago I saw an East versus West game with college players but I didn't see Chris Leak, Troy Smith, or Kevin Kolb. But the Senior Bowl that is going to be held has Troy and Kevin. What's the difference between these bowls and where do NFL scouts recruit them from? moreVoting Question: Guys: Is lack of time due to your career a true reason not to be in a relationship or just an excuse?
I've been dating this guy casually for the past year. I want to take things to the next level, he doesn't. Here's the catch...he's an extremely focused college basketball coach and has very little time to spare. During the regular season, he has games and practices, and during the off season, he travels to recruit. As if that's not tough enough, he lives in another state right now. I care for him a lot and would be willing to try something more serious. He says that he cannot offer that right now due to his career and that I should keep my options open. He says that if things happen down the road, then so be it but for now he cannot give back to me what he would like. I respect his decision, but question it. I believe that if the "right" girl came along nothing else would matter. Do you think what he says is legit and I should wait to see if things change or do you think I am just not the "right" girl? moreResolved Question: Football question????
