Open Question: How can I hook up a wireless router to cricket usb modem?
I have a Linksys wrT54g wireless router, and I have Cricket broadband connection via a USB port. How can I hook up the wireless router, to allow another computer in the house to connect to the internet? moreOpen Question: Internet Problem. Need help!?
Alright. Just about a month ago my dad got a new computer and I got his old one. It was having some internet problems when he gave it to me. So when I got it all hooked up and ready to get connected to my wireless router it wouldn't. It said I was connected but it was not working. The computer is a Compaq. It has Windows media center 2005 edition and it also has service pack 3. According to a lot of the stuff I have read about it in the last month it is because of SP3 but I can't uninstall it. I came preinstalled for my dad. It was working for him for about 3 years. Another note is when I plug in my wireless router it will say limited or no connectivity but when I go down the the bar in the corner it says I am connected. I all so tried to not use wireless and try wiring an Ethernet cable into that room. That didn't work in fact I wired it again with a different Ethernet cable. So can someone please help me. moreOpen Question: WiFi vs Wireless USB Adapter for internet?
I've just bought a laptop...and it came with An Atheros WiFi adapter (I'm assuming this is the G card the rep told me about)....And i also have an Airlink 150N USB Adapter from a previous (and old) computer. The Airlink router is hooked up to another XP computer (main one in the house), but I'm having trouble using the USB Adapter on my Vista laptop (it keeps telling me to connect the adapter when its already inserted, and when i take it out, the Airlink101 Monitor goes away on the screen, so I kno the driver is installed correctly). IF ANYONE CAN HELP WITH THIS ISSUE I'D GREATLY APPRECIATE IT :) Anyway, i can connect to the internet just fine using a Wifi connection... only thing is, when i use the internet on my Ipod Touch with Wifi, it drops connection about every 30 mins for about 3 minutes (very annoying) and i don't know if it will do the same with the laptop. Can Anyone Help? Would i constantly lose connection on my laptop like i do on my Ipod or should I just keep trying to get the USB adapter to work? moreOpen Question: Should I use a router connected to hub or a router connected to router?
Okay my setup is a modem and router on 1st floor. I have a long 50 foot cord coming from router to my room on 2nd floor to use for gaming. I hate having to take the wire out of my ps2 then put it into my ps3 then to my xbox switching it back and forth. So what do I use to multiply the one cord I have on 2nd floor. Do I just get another router hook that up to the one cord or do I get a hub? I am guessing a hub because I think that is used a expander but I am not sure. With the router its like having 2 firewalls I have to set up. So what do you recommend? moreVoting Question: Can I get faster internet?
Supposedly dsl allows for more people to have the same speed connection (unlike cable). If I get a second router and hook it to another phone jack in my house, will this give me more of a connection speed? (meaning, if my download speed was 160kb/s, and I have two routers on two separate phone jacks, would a computer each connected to a different router be able to have 160kb/s?) moreVoting Question: xbox all around connection problems, please help?
Hey everyone, I have been having some very frusterating and annoying xbox live connection problems lately, this whole situation started when my older xbox had gotten the red rings so I shipped it and Microsoft returned me with another xbox, I believe I got this xbox returned between March and April. When I got this xbox returned I have been having some very annoying connections problems. For example sometimes I will be in a party and then all of a sudden it will lag me out of the party I know I wasnt booted because it didnt say anyone booted me its just I lost connection to party so it automatically kicked me out. Also I will be in a party and everything works fine then about 10 minutes later I will get kicked out by my connections and I am not able to re-join the party. Another situation is sometimes I am unable to recieve messages from friends. In example when im talking with a friend on the phone while playing xbox he will tell me on the phone that he has sent me a game invite and I look at my messages and I never recieved it, so to recieve the message I would have to sign out of my account and sign back in and then I will get the invite, Also lately playing on xbox live has been very slow, when I was playing NCAA football 09 yesterday it would take like 15 minutes to finish a 5 minute quarter since the game was being very slow. Some additional info: I use a wireless adapter(the adapters you hook up to the back of your xbox) when I connect to the internet or router, I will get from 1-3 bars and this connection strength will change each time like every 2 minutes. My router that my wireless adapter connects to is in a room downstairs and I am in a room upstairs. Does anyone know why my connection has been very bad lately? How do I increase the connection speed for my wireless adapter on my xbox? I am not a very high-tech person so I proboly wont know some of the abbreviations you use for the router, also when you tell me to check something in my router please tell me how to do that. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. moreVoting Question: Is there anyway to find the router password online?
I wanted to hook my DS to my internet but my male parent unit has lost the password. i know i know why not try resetting it? because the router is locked in his computer room and he wont try to find the password for months...so any way to retreive it another way? moreVoting Question: I have another computer, will it work with a router or will I have to go through my cable company?
I have another computer, will it work with a router or will I have to go through my cable company? I received another computer from a co worker and I want to use it strictly to download music on. I already have a computer that is hooked up through my cable company (Comcast). Now I heard that you can use a router? Is that true and whats the procedure in doing so? Does the router have to be connected to the moden for the other computer? If so, could I still use the router with the newer computer and set it up in my bedroom? I have no idea about any of this? Any and all EDUCATIONAL information needed......totally clueless!! moreVoting Question: How to connect to xbox live WIRED?
So i wanna connect to xbox live WIRED, not wireless. I cant do it the easy way and just get an ethernet cord, and connect one end of my ethernet cord into my router and the other end into my xbox 360. What i want to do is, My internet is upstairs, in the computer room, and i have an ethernet port in the computer room, if you dont no, an ethernet cord goes into an ethernet port., an ethernet port is what is on the back of your xbox 360, that u put ur ethernet cord in. But my ethernet port(the one upstairs), is on the wall, so what i wanna do is with an ethernet cord, connect one end of my ethernet cord into the ethernet port, and the other end of the ethernet cord into my router, then downstairs which is where my xbox 360 is, get another ethernet cord and connect one end of my ethernet cord into a ethernet port, (this ethernet port is downstairs, same room as xbox 360), and connect the other end of the Ethernet cord into the back of the xbox 360. BUT basically my question, HOW DO I MAKE IT SO WHEN I PLUG ONE END OF MY ETHERNET CORD INTO MY ROUTER AND OTHER END INTO MY ETHERNET PORT(which is upstairs), HOW IT WILL TRANSFER DOWNSTAIRS INTO THAT ETHERNET CORD!!!, By the way, i dont wanna use a computer or laptop to hook up to xbox live, i dont wanna drill holes in the walls, and i dont wanna put an ethernet cord through a vent, please HELP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, and i have wireless internet, and my router and modem is working perfectly. and if you dont get what im asking, how do i tell you what i mean without making a new question?, THANKS!!! moreResolved Question: Will connecting the computer to internet cause viruses and slow down my computer?
2 weeks ago I got a computer to play sims 3. It works perfectly because I know exceed the system requirements. But that's not my question. You see, I want to go on the 'exchange' on the sims 3 website and download new things to my game. I want new hairstyles and outfits. The computer isn't currently connected to internet or anything. My mom said we could because we already have another computer with a wireless router. So we can hook it up. But my mom also said that connecting it to internet will slow down my computer and give it viruses. Is this true? And does adding the computer updates mess up your computer? Thanks in advance. :)If I do decide to have internet I would add Norton. moreResolved Question: can second desktop get wireless nternet through router?

Okay, I've really had enough of this crap. I have a tower upstairs in my house that's hooked up to a wireless router which is in turn connected to my wild blue ethernet modem. I never have problems with the internet on this computer, but my laptop downstairs has a lot of trouble connecting wirelessly though. First of all, whenever you connect to the router, it tells me that the connection is unsuccessful, but you can still get on if there's that little blue shield present where the two monitors are on the taskbar (Vista). If I close up the laptop thus putting it to sleep and then open it up again, about 50% of the time I can't reconnect to the same wireless connection. It shows up in the available networks, but it just tells me the connection was unsuccessful like every other time I try to get on but then I can't access the internet. This problem can usually be remedied by restarting the whole computer but sometimes even that doesn't work. The laptop right now is running Vista Home Premium without the latest service pack. Also, I'm never able to connect when the tower upstairs is off. I didn't think that's how it worked since the modem runs to the router and then another cable runs it to my tower. I'm really at the end of my rope here so could someone assist me in trying to get my internet to work consistently?A bug you say? Stupid Vista. moreResolved Question: Wireless Belkin Router?

Do i have to buy something? moreResolved Question: Networking experts, please help: Connectivity issues?
I'm going to be as detailed as possible here because I'm getting absolutely sick of this. I use a D-Link DIR-625 Wireless Router hooked up to another computer, and a D-Link DWA-140 Wireless Reciever to get an internet connection in my office which is less than 20 feet away from the router. I have all of my drivers updated and I frequently scan for viruses and malware. Nothing suspicious turned up in my most recent scan, which was at 7:00 PM lastnight. Ever since I moved to Wireless N, I lose my connection sometimes as much as ten times an hour, with one exception. I play an online game called Combat Arms (a 3D MMOFPS), and as long as I'm in a match, my connection always stays strong. Sometimes these matches can last for up to 20 minutes, and normally I would disconnect at least twice during that period. What is it about Combat Arms that keeps me from dropping my connection, and how can I possibly use it for non-gaming activities? If you need any additional information, please do not hesitate to visit my Y!A profile and send me an e-mail from there, I will respond ASAP. Thanks in advance.johntrottier: My lease time is set to renew every 24 hours, so that shouldn't be the problem. Adrian: I'm working on figuring out how to drop it to G standard. moreVoting Question: Belkin G wireless Router to Comcast Modem?

I have a printer that is connected to a computer. However, I don't want that computer to be connected to the internet for several reasons. So that printer can only print on that computer it is connected to now. On the back of the printer is a hook up for an ethernet cable that I'm sure is normally connected to a wireless router. However, instead of buying a 50 foot wire and connecting it to the wireless router, I was wondering if there is another way to get connected to the network like buying a wireless network adapter or hub and connecting it to the back of the printer?? If this is the case, then what is that device called and where is the cheapest and quickest place to get one? Thanks. moreVoting Question: How to get internet on a wireless capable laptop, using wired broadband from another computer in my house?
I have a laptop with wireless capabilities (both g and n ,I think).I am tired of borrowing wifi to get internet. Elsewhere in my house,(on another level), I have another computer, a desktop with mediacom broadband, using a cable modem. How do I get this internet to work on my laptop? Mediacom won't install anything, and they say it can be fixed on my own.Do I need some sort of router? If so what kind, speed, and how to hook it up? Plz answer, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks! moreVoting Question: How can I use both Linksys and my current internet service at the same time for XBOX live?
This is what I am working with... + XBOX Live (which I am eager to set up) + XBOX Wireless adapter + Linksys Router, model BEFW11S4 + An established internet service (Comcast) The Comcast service is set up via the only internet/ethernet jack in the back of my computer. I thought of getting a Cat5 splitter, but I found out that it will only mix up the signals. I am tyring to find a way to get my XBOX wireless adapter to connect to the linksys signal: is it even possible to have both services set up at once (Comcast + Linksys together)? Currently it connects all the way up to IP address step, then it stops at the DNS, because I dont have the Linksys hooked up to my computer. I dont want to resort to using the ethernet cable which is provided (meaning I would just directly connect it to the computer) because I already invested in the wireless adapter. The main problem I am facing is that I cant find the DNS due to the fact that my Linksys is not completely set up, and the only way I think I can do this is by having it work in conjunction with the service I already have. How can I use both Linksys and my current internet service at the same time? And if I do finally get them both running at the same time, will I be able to find the DNS???? I dont want to end up spending alot of extra money having a tech come to my house when I can just resolve this myself. I dont want to call Comcast because they are going to tell me it cant be done (because it would be screwing them to be using another service along with theirs)... I really need a solution here. Best answer 10 points! moreResolved Question: 2 computers 1 router how do i connect them?
I hooked a router up to my modem in the living room..i have another computer about 50 feet away.i run the disc and installed the router ..turned the other computer on and it says no connection ..do i need a router for that computer or something in the computer to find the router..or what do i do to get the internet out there with out running a cable all the way around and through the house moreVoting Question: Can I use my wireless router as a wireless adapter?
I have a Linksy's WRT54G in my room. This router is hooked up straight from my cable modem (Time Warner service) and sends out a wireless signal to my two laptops and one desktop computer. My apartment is not all that big so the laptops get a strong connection, but the desktop has a sub par wireless adapter and has a less than amazing connection. It's usually the one getting the slowest download speeds. Now then my question is: using another WRT54G (which is not in use anymore, but still almost brand new and working great) can I somehow get a better connection? Perhaps as a wireless adapter to the desktop? I've tried looking this answer up in a couple places, but I can't seem to find the question and answer I'm looking for. moreVoting Question: Need help setting up two routers on one network.?
Here's my scenario: I live in an apartment complex. In my apartment, my modem is in the washroom. The modem is wired to various connection points throughout the apartment. In my office, I have a D-Link wireless router serving my PC as well as the wireless connections for my Macbook and my Nintendo Wii. In the living room, I have a second router (TrendNet) hooked up to another connection that's feeding my Xbox 360. I cannot get both routers to function at once. I know it is possible to have all the devices working at once with an internet connection, but I don't know what settings I need. Help? moreResolved Question: Need help extending my wifi network. Mission Impossible?
Alright, here's the deal, this may be impossible... but i'll see if you guys have any advice. I have a wireless router i'm accessing from across the street (it's my family's don't worry i'm not stealing) and I can receive the internet to my wireless computer, but not on my iPod, so I was wondering if there's a way to hook up another wireless router to my CPU and have that make a new network that can access the internet. I can't seem to figure it out, or find anyone as stupid as I am, so hopefully you guys have some ideas. Here's the best diagram I could make: Internet > Router A > Wi-fi > My Computer > Router B > Wi-fi > iPod Hopefully that makes sense. OR if you guys have any other ideas. Router A is a LinkSys WRT54GX-v2 Router B is a Zyxel is a P-334WT I'm down for hacking either of these, but from what I read neither are compatible with OpenWRTI don't understand the USB thing... moreResolved Question: I can't connect to the web through a cat 5 cable hooked to a router on one laptop, but on another I can. Alright, so here is my problem I have had the same router and modem for quite sometime now and have no problems getting on X-Box Live as I steam movies and such from my computer and for some reason or another the codec I download from X-Box Live does not work unless signed in. But, I have had this same setup running no problem but last night after I was done using Live I shut off my X-Box and left for a bit but when I came back and tryed to log into Live it now says I have an error with the MTU settings and not able to connect to X-Box Live. Keep in mind I haven't changed anything at all on this setup prior to the new MTU error except some Vista updates on my computer. So, I did what it suggested and hooked my X-Box directly on my modem bi-passing the router and still MTU problems. So here is my computer specs: Vista 32x Sp3 Mortorola Surfboard SB5100 ( http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/products/SB5100/downloads/SB5100_Data_Sheet.pdf ) Linksys WRT54G v5 MTU is set to AUTO [( updated firmware ) http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/products/WAP54G )] Once again I didn't change anything at all before it started giving me this MTU error. Hopefully someone can help me out here. Thanks in advance moreResolved Question: If I already have a internet cable hooked to a router, can I split it to my computer and xbox360?
I only have one internet cable going through my room that is already hooked up to a router. But I want to be able to have internet access to my xbox360 and my computer at the same time. Is there some kind of splitter I can buy? or do I have to get another router? and does this slow down the signal if I do so? moreResolved Question: Help with Xbox Live??
My router that I used for xbox live recently stopped working and so i got another which is wireless. So i hook it up to my modem and plug the my router into my pc and xbox 360(with NXE). My pc works great and i get internet on it right away, but my Xbox wont connect to xbox live. So I restart the modem, router, and xbox, but it still wont connect. It says that it can't find the network hardware. It wasn't something wrong with the ethernet cable because i took the cord going into the pc that was working great and hooked it up into the xbox and it didn't work. Then i plugged the xbox right into the modem and reset them both, but it says the same error message. I call microsoft and they took me through all the steps I already did and tell me that I need to get one of those $80 wireless connection things for my 360. So then i took my 360 to my dad's house and went through all of those steps again with his ethernet connection and it still said the same error message. Could anybody help me? I don't want to get a wireless thing. (Oh and I also have vonage at my house and my internet provider is comcast) moreResolved Question: Computer won't connect via network adapter?
First off I am running Windows XP SP2. I have both a network adapter connected to a router which goes into the modem via cable and is a much faster connection, as well as a wireless adapter which is fast enough for internet not fast enough for games. Well this morning I turned on my computer, keeping in mind last night everything was fine well this morning I cannot get the internet through the network adapter no matter what I try. It says I have limited or no connectivity because the network did not assign a network address to the computer. When I try to repair it says it cannot renew my ip address . There is another computer on this network, it is working fine so I tried bypassing the router, then tried the cable from that computer on this one. Nothing worked. I updated the driver on the network card, which is a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC, but it said there is no update available. I found a website that told me to change the speed and duplex from auto to 10mbps full duplex, and for just a couple minutes that actually worked. But then it went back to no connectivity again. After that I tried a system restore back a couple days but still nothing. Finally I hooked up through the wireless and here I am. I'm not terribly computer savvy, though I can usually fix problems myself I am having a terrible time understanding all the jargon on the tech websites so if anyone can help me kindof dumb down your answers please lol. Thanks in advance! moreVoting Question: speed up internet speed?

I just signed up for Comcast internet and they are coming out on Wednesday to setup the line - I chose the cheapest options (no wireless, connect directly to cable modem, etc). They told me that "I can go wireless for $25 extra" which doesnt make sense to me. If I wanted to go wireless couldn't I just buy a wireless router and hook it up to my cable modem? I have absolutely no trust for Comcast employees, so I'm assuming the $25 was another ripoff no-need charge. If I decide to "go wireless" I can just get a router in the future, correct? moreVoting Question: Connected to wireless with Linksys wireless router, but doesn't work..?
I have a Linksys wireless router, and everything is hooked up right (and I know it is because I have another laptop that it works 100% fine with.) Both of the computers are not trying to connect at the same time, so I know that can't be the problem. I've tried re-connecting the router, restarting my computer, and turning the Wi-Fi on and off, but none of that works. Does anyone know the cause of this problem, and how I can fix it? i have a linksys router hooked up to a motorola modem. for some reason xbox live doesnt work when i connect via ethernet cable to the router BUT when i connect with the same cable to my modem it does. this is a problem because when i connect to the modem i have to disconnect the router and the whole house loses wireless internet. i have called 1 800 4 my xbox numerous times trying to find an answer but all they tell me is that there is a problem with the configuration or that the router isnt compatible. what makes 1 router compatible compared to another that is incompatible? is there any way for me to have internet and xbox live without buying a new router? there is only 1 ethernet output on the modem, 4 on the wireless router. i have also tried a wireless xbox connection but it was terribly slow. any help is appretiatedim not stupid, i have an xbox live subscription. this has nothin to do with my membership, its a tech problem. not all people are as dumb as the ones you befriend. i dont need any confidence boosters. moreResolved Question: I want wifi on my laptop, I dont know the first thing about it, help!?
I just bought an older used ibm thinkpad 390e laptop that has a netgear 54 mbps wireless pc card(wg511 v2) just for my phototgraphy(uploading pics to internet, making lab purchases online) and general surfing. I have never had a laptop before. I have a desktop pc that is hooked up to wireless broadband internet(not cable dsl). I dont have a router yet, I am picking up a weak signal from somewhere on the laptop but not strong enough for me. I am guessing I need to buy a router. I am looking at the box my broadband is hooked up to, I think that is a modem? That box doesnt seem to have many ports on it to hook a router up to, it has one ethernet port which is hooked up to my desktop and another port that I dont know what it is, labled MON so I dont see how a router would hook up to it. As you can tell, I am CLUELESS. Also, about routers, I was looking at netgear routers at walmart, and saw so many different ones from 40 bucks to over 100. Will a standard G surf the web okay or do I need something better? and will any netgear router be compatable with the netgear card I have or do I maybe even need a better card? Keep in mind I am not trying to run a gamestation or anything big and bad here, I do want it to run fast and strong enough to upload photos to the web and to maybe watch youtube videos. Also I dont even know what this means, but I know the laptop does not have a land based LAN, so does that even matter for me or should I buy a 10/100 LAN card? moreResolved Question: Why does one computer go slow when another computer is on the internet? can i print off my laptop if i buy a wifi printer without a router or the use of another computer? moreResolved Question: Can you bridge an internet connection wirelessly?
I would like to know if it's possible to bridge an internet connection through a wired laptop (w/ wireless card, its just on direct connect) to another? sort of like using the laptop as a wireless router. In other words, stringing (bridging) the wireless from laptop to laptop (no router w/ one on direct connect). I know its possible to do it the opposite way. The laptop on wireless w/ an xbox, ps3, other comp, etc hooked into the laptop bridging wirelessly through the laptop. if you want more details or it's a bit confusing please email me. this is an odd question i know, i own a wireless router and know full well how to use it. I'm just curious if this is possible, considering it works the other way around. moreResolved Question: I wanna get a wireless N router with a usb input. Which is best?

well. my mother in law has a computer with dsl on it. i would like to take that same dsl line and hook it up to my husbands laptop. now i don't want to have them hooked up at the same time. i basically would like to i guess transfer the line between the computers as i like.well i tried what the first person answered. when i hook up the ethernet to the laptop the ethernet light on the modem does not light up. i am trying to figure out why. moreVoting Question: Do I need a modem in the pc that is soon to arrive?
I bought a Dell computer on line. While going down the list of options one of the choices was "check one; dial up or cable modem" since I use DSL and I'll be connecting to the internet wireless through a router in another part of the house, I didn't pick either. Was that a goof? Should I have picked one? Will I now have to buy a modem to go on line? If yes, Exactly what do I ask for? Assuming that I do will I have to install it in the tower or can it be an external hook up? I do have another pc running wireless with an adapter through usb but that one has a dial up modem. Help if you can. Please, if there is any other information that you have, that you may have drawn from my questions that you think would be useful to me please don't hesitate to embellish.
